Charles Kenneth "Ken" Plotner, 91, of Midland passed away on Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at his residence. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Chapel with Rev. Larry Bailey officiating. Ken was born in El Dorado, Kansas on March 15, 1920, to Charles H. and Mary (Bird) Plotner. He graduated from high school in 1937 in Seminole, Oklahoma. Upon graduation he worked for C. R. Anthony and Dunlap Company until joining the Army Air Corps at the beginning of World War II. He was assigned to the 1st Fighter Control Squadron from 1941-1945. While en route to Australia, his ship was torpedoed and sunk. Ken was rescued along with others after spending 36 hours in the Pacific, for which he was later awarded the Purple Heart. Ken married Martha Bozarth in 1949 in Seminole, Oklahoma. Together they worked for Dunlap's department stores in eight different towns before settling in Midland, Texas. Martha preceded him in death on June 16, 2000. Ken served as senior vice president on Dunlap's Board for a number of years. After 50 years with the Dunlap's Company, he retired in Midland.Ken is survived by his nephew, George and wife Doris Lawson of Topeka, KS; niece, Martha and husband Jim Nelson of Carlsbad, CA; niece, Yenny Bozarth of Tucson, AZ; niece Mary A. Lockhart of Hubert NC; beloved friend, Gloria Hicks of Midland, TX; and his devoted caregivers, Mary Chaisson, Toni Flores, and Yvonne Gutierrez.He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Plotner, his parents, Charles and Mary Plotner, his sister, Helen Donahue, and two nephews, Bob Bozarth, and Grover Lawson.The family requests that memorials be directed to Hospice of Midland, 911 W.
