Carlan Ann Robinson Walker was born on December 19, 1943, in Midland, Texas. She was the fourth of eight children born to Charlie Wesley Robinson, Sr. and Henrietta Grimes Robinson.
Carlan was educated in the Midland School System and proudly graduated from Carver High School in 1962. She began her Christian journey at Greater Ideal Baptist Church in Midland under the leadership of the late Reverend I.M. Woodard. Her grandfather, Alvin Grimes, was a founding Deacon of the church. From an early age, Carlan lived her faith boldly. She was an unapologetically spirit-filled Christian who deeply loved and trusted God the Father, Jesus Christ her Lord and Savior, and the Holy Spirit.
A gifted singer, Carlan was a faithful member of the Greater Ideal Choir and also sang with the Voices of Zion, a gospel group that traveled throughout Texas and Louisiana, ministering through song.
On January 18, 1966, Carlan married Nathaniel Walker. To this union, two daughters were born, Tammy Rena and Yolanda Dionne. Carlan devoted her life to raising her daughters—and later her grandchildren—in the love and admonition of the Lord. She instilled in them the importance of faith in Jesus Christ and the values of honesty, integrity, and hard work.
Carlan was a licensed cosmetologist and later worked as a teacher’s aide before joining Petroleum Information, where she served for 10 years. She later began a long career at Walmart, working in several roles, including management. But her true light shone brightest as a Walmart greeter, where she welcomed everyone with her radiant smile and uplifting words. After 26 years of service, Carlan retired to enjoy her family and faith more fully.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Esther L. Robinson; her brothers, Charlie W. Robinson, Jr., and Willie L. Robinson; and two infant siblings.
On August 25, 2025, Carlan answered her Master’s Call and entered eternal rest in Heaven.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and faith in her two daughters, Tammy Walker Hill (Louis) and Yolanda Walker Gordon (Derrick); four grandchildren, Brittany Andretta Graham (Khiry), Marcus Nathaniel Gordon (Tierra), Kendall Bryce Barber, and Nicholas Troy Gordon; and two great-grandchildren, Keyonna Marie Barber and Noah Ace Nathaniel Gordon. She is also survived by her sisters, Ella Robinson Ray (Mack) and Janet Robinson Niblett (Alfred Jr.), along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, church family, and co-workers whose lives she touched deeply.
Carlan will be forever loved and dearly missed.
