C. Ray Allen, 65, of Midland left this world on January 25, 2012. He was born December 26, 1946, in Midland, Texas. He was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School where he played football and earned the affectionate nickname "The Beast." Ray married the love of his life, Jacqueline Walton Allen, in the fall of 1968. Both graduated from Texas Tech University and Texas Tech School of Law. Ray and Jacque practiced law together in Midland until her death in 2009.Ray was a man of many talents, including woodworking, mechanics, restoring vintage cars and fixing almost anything himself, instead of calling in a professional. His friends refused to play Trivial Pursuit with him because Ray could speak with some authority on almost any subject including history, chemistry, physics, anatomy, mathematics and biology. Although Ray had the appearance of a rather large and intimidating man, he had the softest of hearts and always rooted for, and came to the defense of, the underdog. He was a beloved father to his only child, Stacy Allen Jewett, and a dedicated "Papa Bear" to his only grandson, Jack Matthew Jewett.Ray was preceded in death by his father, Clarence L. Allen, Jr., and his wife, Jacqueline Walton Allen.
