Buddy Ryerson, 65, of Big Spring, passed away Saturday, February 18, 2017 in hospice at a local nursing home. A celebration of Buddy's life will take place at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 25, 2017 at the Salvation Army in Big Spring. Buddy was born March 2, 1951 to Charles A. Ryerson and Vada B. Clark and lived most of his life in Big Spring. He served his country in the United States Army from 1971 to 1973 and was stationed in Germany. He was a member of the Big Spring Salvation Army.Buddy was a musician most of his life. His parents, Charles and Vada, were also musicians and inspired his great love of music. He received his first guitar at the age of 14 and was involved in several bands throughout his life.While in high school Buddy formed his first band called Time Creations with his sister Arvella Roe as his original drummer. Other members were Luis and Gloria Perez. They played for private parties and various places including the NCO Club at Webb Air Force Base. In the early 70's Buddy joined Arvella's band, The Lobos, which included Kenneth Clements and played for a lengthy time at the Eagle's Club which was located at The Settles Hotel at that time. Some of the other bands were No Clue, Inside Out Band, Late For Supper, New Company, Jones Valley Band, and the last one for the past 16 years, Texas Pride. He played throughout the Permian Basin and some parts of New Mexico. In 2005 Texas Pride won Battle Of The Bands, People's Choice Award, and #1 Country.There were many band members he played with throughout his life including Rich Klitz, Cecil Bingham, Tommy Hildebrand, Troy Axton, Kelly Long, Fred Shannon, Gordon Murich, Cyndy Bingham, David Sheen, Ronnie Meeks, Steve Sigman and Angelique Latimer, James Wicker and Mike Adams. Outside of being a musician, Buddy worked at the College Park Shopping Center for several years as maintenance manager, and also at Montgomery Wards in auto repair.Buddy's great sense of humor and kind heart were always welcomed where ever he went. While being treated for lung cancer he took time to cheer up other cancer patients going through treatment. Buddy was looking forward to going to glory and stated many times he was ready and anxious to go to be with the Lord.Buddy is survived by one daughter, Brook Hansen and husband, Adam of Cary, North Carolina; two sons, Paul Ryerson and wife, Analese of Bryan, and Mark Ryerson of Big Spring; four grandchildren, Paige Hansen, Ethan Hansen, Braylen Ryerson, and Joshua Ryerson; his mother, Vada B. Witkowski of Midland; five brothers, Charlie Ryerson, of Big Spring, George Ryerson and William Ryerson both of Phoenix, Arizona, Richard McKinney and wife, Patricia of Buda, and Lawrence Witkowski and wife, Angie of Sand Springs; two sisters, Arvella Roe and husband, Aaron of Midland, and Evelyn Redd and husband, Jack of Big Spring; and numerous nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his father, Charles A. Ryerson, step-father, Raymond Carl Witkowski, and his grandmother Eugenia Lee Clark.Arrangements under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
