Boyd Richard “Dick” Carson, Jr., 85, of Big Spring, Texas, passed away on Saturday, March 27, 2021 at Midland Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Thursday, April 1, 2021 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Wade Cobb officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park. He will lie in state from 8:30 AM to 9:00 PM Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.
He was born on February 20, 1936, in Seville, Ohio to Boyd Richard Carson, Sr. and Iona Mae Norton Carson, and grew up in Strasburg, Ohio. He joined the Air Force shortly after he graduated from Strasburg High School in 1954. Dick was a Vietnam Veteran and served with distinction for over 22 years.
Dick met Marilyn Gerene Anderson while stationed at Webb Air Force Base and married her on March 15, 1958 in Big Spring and lived all over the world, including France, Spain, and Colorado, before returning to Big Spring in 1976. After retiring from the Air Force in 1977, Dick began working for the City of Big Spring as the Director of Housing until his retirement in 1997. He and Gerene spent retirement enjoying the company of their children and grandchildren until Gerene’s death in 2010. He spent the rest of his days mourning the greatest love of his life and will certainly welcome her embrace again.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Katricia Carson of Big Spring; his daughter, Kelly Ralston of Big Spring; his son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Georgina Carson of Mansfield; his son Jimmy Carson of Big Spring; his brother-in-law, Gary Lee Anderson and Gary’s wife, Dee Anderson of San Antonio; his sister-in-law Karen Carson of Monument, Colorado; his sister-in-law and her husband Shirley and David Gettys of Mansfield; his eighteen grandchildren and thirty-one great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marilyn Gerene Carson; his brother, Donald Edward Carson; his sister, Edith Eleanor Thomas; and his son-in-law, Tommy Ralston.
