Bonnie Vachal

Bonnie Lou Bailey Vachal was a long time resident of West Texas.  She was born February 16, 1930 in Akron, Ohio and passed away September 11, 2022.

She was an intelligent and passionate woman who began her working career as a teacher after receiving her elementary education degree.  After a year of teaching, Bonnie changed career paths.  She graduated from Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital, she served as nursing arts instructor and assistant director of nurses one year after graduating from nursing school.  In 1969 she began a career with Midland Memorial Hospital where she worked as a charge nurse in several departments including: medical, surgical, emergency room, intensive care and coronary care.  She was also head nurse in neurosurgery, orthopedic, geriatrics and relief house supervisor.  Her hobbies included quilting, spending time with her grandchildren and, of course, shopping.  One of her favorite places to shop was in Ruidoso, New Mexico.  Not only for shopping, but for the beautiful mountains and trees.  Bonnie’s father was a Baptist minister, she loves good music and she was an accomplished pianist.  While attending nursing school in El Dorado, Kansas she met the man she was destined to marry, Barney Vachal.  After 6 weeks of dating, they were married.  Together they had a long marriage that lasted many years.

Bonnie is survived by her two daughters Penny and Peggy, her grandchildren Katie, Clayton, Cole and Kyle, as well as her first great-grandchild Percy.
