BOBBIE JEAN NEWGENT HAGLER went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and to be reunited with her late husband, Leo Hagler, and her son, Larry Hagler, on Sunday, May 12th, 2024. Bobbie was born April 22, 1932, in Amarillo, Texas, to parents William Tolbeart Newgent and Jackie Crow Newgent. She graduated from Odessa High School in 1950. Bobbie then attended Odessa College where she met and married the love of her life, Leo Hagler. They had a double wedding September 15, 1951, with Pat Denny and J.D. Campbell in Odessa. They were transferred several times with Schlumberger and lived in Odessa, Kermit, Andrews, Hobbs, New Mexico and then Midland in 1970.
Since moving to Midland in 1970, Bobbie was a faithful member of Golf Course Road Church of Christ for 48 years where she taught children’s Bible classes for many years. She also taught Bible classes at Jefferson Street Church of Christ in Hobbs, New Mexico. Bobbie was always grateful that her children, Larry and Linda, always loved the Lord and worshipped in the Churches of Christ all their life.
Bobbie worked for Floyd West & Company Insurance and Alexander & Alexander Insurance in Midland. Bobbie was president of Insurance Women of Midland in 1994 and first vice-president of Lubbock Christian College Associates in 1972. Bobbie was a longtime member of Midland County Republican Women and Hospice “Friends Who Care”. She enjoyed playing bridge for over sixty years. Bobbie moved to Temple with her daughter, Linda, in July 2018 to be near family. Bobbie was then a member of the Belton Church of Christ and Central Texas Republican Women. She attended the Western Hills Church of Christ just prior to her death.
Bobbie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Leo Hagler in 1996, son, Larry Hagler in 2012, brother William Lynn Newgent in 2021 and sister Lela Jo McElroy in 2023. Survivors include daughter Linda Hagler of Midland and Temple; nephew Larry McElroy and wife Michelle of Carrollton; nieces Sharon Sewell of Temple and Cindy Davis of Cedar Park, cousins Pam Corntassel of Miami, Oklahoma, Tommy Corntassel of Ft. Worth, Jimmy Corntassel of Waco, Gary Newgent of Santa Fe, New Mexico and David Newgent of Navarre Beach, Florida.
Visitation with family will be Sunday, May 19th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. A “Celebration of Life” will be Monday, May 20th at 10:00 a.m. at Golf Course Road Church of Christ. Longtime friends, Dr. Gene Lusk of San Angelo, and The Honorable Judge James Browning of Albuquerque, New Mexico will officiate.
Bobbie will be buried in the family plot beside her late husband, Leo, and son, Larry, at Resthaven Memorial Park in Midland, Texas. A second memorial service will be held in Temple, Texas at the Western Hills Church of Christ at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 8th, with Bobbie’s nephew, Larry McElroy, officiating.
Pallbearers will be Less Roland, The Honorable Judge James Browning, Randy Prude, Tim Prude, Tim Galyon and Kyle McGraw. Honorary pallbearers are cousins Tommy Corntassel and Jimmy Corntassel, nephew Larry McElroy, Tim McGraw, Scott McGraw, Travis McGraw and the former elders of the Golf Course Road Church of Christ. Bobbie Jean did have a special request. She asked that everyone please support and vote for President Donald J. Trump in the upcoming Presidential election in hopes of keeping America a Constitutional Republic, Christian nation and strong supporter of Israel, the Holy Land of God.
