Bob Corkins, 84, of Midland, died on Monday, January 30, 2012, at the Hospice Inpatient Unit at Midland Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be at 9:00 AM Saturday, February 4, 2012, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints- Gateway, with Bishop Paul Grandy, officiating. Interment to follow at 2:30 PM at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Alpine. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, February 3, 2012, at the funeral home.He was born on January 20, 1928, in El Paso, Texas and married Vera Maxine Flood on August 10, 1948, in Alpine. She preceded him in death in 2007. Bob served in the United States Air Force from November 1951 to November 1955, and graduated from Schreiner Military Institute in Kerrville. He received his BA from Sul Ross University. He was a businessman in Alpine for 50 years, operating CG Morrison Company and the Gem Wholesale Company. Bob served two terms as City Councilman in Alpine, a four year term as County Commissioner for Precinct 1 in Brewster County, a term as West Texas Chamber of Commerce President and server a term as Vice President of the Lions Club. He also served ten years in the Branch Presidency of the Latter-Day Saints Church in Alpine and eight years as an officiator in the Dallas and Lubbock Temples of Latter-Day Saints Church.Survivors include his son, Gregory G. Corkins and wife Kelly, of San Antonio; his daughter, Cathy Lynn Neie and husband Michael of Midland; five grandchildren, Erinn Leah Corkins of San Antonio, Lynn Marie Tippett of Logan, Utah, Devin Keith Corkins of Ft. Worth, Keith Alan Neie and Chaela Lynn Neie, both of Midland; and three great grandchildren, Kailey Mai Omera, Caden Parker Corkins, and Dallin Cole Corkins.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
