Billie Norman Campbell, 87, long-time Midland resident died on Monday, March 31, 2014 after a lengthy illness. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2014, at 9:00am at North A Church of Christ.He was born on June 10, 1926 in Henrietta, Oklahoma to Freedom and Daisy Campbell. After graduating from Tulsa Central High School in 1944, he served in the United States Navy as a signalman during World War II. He performed his duty in the Battle of Leyte Gulf, Iwo Jima, Okinawa and the occupation of Japan.Following his honorable discharge, he worked various jobs in the oil field for several service companies in Oklahoma. During this time, he married Donna Jean Barnes of Drumright, Oklahoma in 1951. He was employed as an inventory engineer in 1959 by Continental Oil Company in Ponca City, Oklahoma before moving to Midland later that year. He worked in the West Texas and Eastern New Mexico region when he retired from Conoco in 1991.Mr. Campbell was a long-time active member of the North A and Tennessee, Westside and Fairmont Avenue Churches of Christ in Midland. He was actively involved with the local Boy Scouts of America serving in various leadership roles with Cub Scout Pack 70 and Boy Scout Troop 270.He is survived by his wife, a daughter, Elizabeth Doyle of Midland, Texas; six sons, David Campbell of Lewisville, Texas, Rickey Campbell of Midland, Texas, Steven Campbell of Ackerly, Texas, Jon Campbell of Wood River, Illinois, Byron Campbell of Fort Bragg, North Carolina and James Campbell of Austin, Texas; three sisters; three daughters-in-law; two granddaughters; and eleven grandsons.In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to “In Search of the Lord’s Way”, PO BOX 371, Edmond, Oklahoma 73083, (800)321-8633, or to a charity of your choice. ,
