Betty J. Tucker passed away on Friday, April 30, 2021.
She was the daughter of William S. and Pearl Tays. Betty was born September 4, 1937 in Roswell, New Mexico. Betty graduated from Roswell High in 1955. She worked for E.F. Hutton and then spent many years at the New Mexico Military Institute as private secretary to the Commandant of Cadets and one year as assistant Registrar. Betty married Bobby J. Tucker from Clovis, New Mexico and lived there four years. Betty was a member of Sandia Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher for 8 year olds and a VBS teacher. The family spent 2 years in Seattle, Washington then moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico for the next 28 years. Betty was active in Beta Sigma Phi and held many offices.
Betty had one child, a daughter Derryn and always said she was her greatest gift. Betty was a loving wife, mother, sister and friend. She never met a stranger and had a great sense of humor. After Bobby retired in 1998, they moved to Midland where Betty said, “Midland is the only city I’ve lived that feels like home.” She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Midland.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Tucker of Midland; daughter, Derryn Lynn Tucker; parents, William and Pearl Tays; brother, George Donald Tays; brother, Raymond G. Tays; brother, Melvin E. Tays; brother, William S. Tays, Jr.; and sister, Florine Gregg.
Survivors include, sister-in-law, Joyce Tays and nephew, Jackie Sawyer of Richmond, Texas; Don Walsh of Kerrville; niece, Sue Tays of Albuquerque, New Mexico; brother-in-law, Don Tucker and family of Federal Way, Washington.
All day viewing will be held on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. Graveside service will be held at 11:00am, Thursday, May 6, 2021 at Resthaven Memorial Park.
