Arles “Doyle” Maddox, 89 of Midland, Texas, passed away on Monday, January 17, 2022. Graveside services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, January 22, 2022 at Tucumcari Memorial Park in Tucumcari, New Mexico. Local arrangements under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory in Midland, Texas.
Arles “Doyle” Maddox was born on April 20, 1932 in Mangum, Oklahoma to Burt Jackson Maddox and Lena Mae McNeely Maddox. He and his three siblings were raised in their home on Main St. in Tucumcari, NM. He graduated from Tucumcari High School “The Rattlers” in 1950. He was active in the marching band there playing the trombone. After graduation he attended Eastern New Mexico University. He married Mildred Yvonne King of Clovis, NM in January of 1951. They had three daughters, Sona Roijean, Mona Maxine and Tona Darlene.
Doyle was a people person and did well in all his various careers. He worked briefly for Kirby Vacuum Company, then in the airline industry which took he and his wife to Midland, TX. Next, he was manager of the men’s department for Dunlap’s Stores for many years before going to work for Allstate Insurance Company. There he won many area top agent awards before retiring.
He made friends with everyone. He would tell you the names of wait staff at various restaurants and about their families. They always smiled when he would come in their establishments.
He is survived by his daughter, Roijean Culver and husband Paul of Midland, Maxine Davis and husband Sam of Midland, Darlene Tate and husband Robert of Seguin, TX, sister LaNell Evetts and her husband Dr. George Evetts of Tucumcari, NM. Also, granddaughters Angela Richardson and husband David of Temple, TX, Rebekah Tate of Seguin, TX and Sara Hess of Midland, TX. Great grandchildren Brayden, Bryce, Braxton and Brynlee Richardson of Temple and Grace Elliot, Gabby and Kaylie of Midland and two great, great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents Burt and Lena Mae Maddox, brothers Don Maddox and Bill Maddox, grandson Caleb Tate and wife Yvonne.
The family would like to thank all of his many friends for the love you showed him and his family. In lieu of flowers the family would like memorials to go to the charity of your choice.
