Allyne R. Johnson, 95, a long time Midland resident, died on May 11, 2025. Allyne was born on June 9, 1929 in a room of her grandparents’ home in Hartshorne, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Charles L. “Skipper” Robertson and Norma T. Robertson and the proud younger sister of Judy Robertson Linxwiler.
When Allyne was young, the Robertson family moved to Dallas when Norma and Skipper opened “Robertson’s Cake Shop”. Allyne and Judy worked with Norma and Skipper to make sure East Dallas had the right spot to satisfy a sweet tooth. After graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School, Allyne enrolled at Southern Methodist University and joined Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She was proud of being at SMU when Doak Walker and the Mustangs were the kings of the Southwest Conference.
While on a date with someone else, Allyne had the fortune of meeting a Texas Aggie named Craig Johnson and that was all she wrote. Shortly after Craig’s graduation from A&M, they were married and, following a reception in Allyne’s parents’ backyard, they embarked on their life journey together.
Craig began service in the Air Force and, while stationed at Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico, Allyne was a kindergarten teacher until Randall was born in 1954. Following a move to Midland, Judy was born in 1959.
Allyne suffered through many Little League games and dance recitals while raising Randall and Judy. She loved and supported them unwaveringly, even through their not so occasional mischievous acts. Allyne and Craig enjoyed the many friendships they made in Midland. They were both proud Midlanders. But their lives together ended way too soon with Craig’s sudden death in 1989. After Craig’s death, Allyne enjoyed many trips with friends and the fellowship she had with fellow residents of Manor Park.
Allyne was predeceased by her parents, her sister Judy, and her husband Craig. She is survived by her son, Randall Johnson (Gena) of Fort Worth, daughter Judy Gant (Terry) of Artesia, New Mexico, her grandchildren who knew her as “Nanny”, Grant Johnson, Allison Iyescas (Michael), Kelly Worrell (Garrett), and Kaki Gant Wisnewski (Nick), and four great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Judy Johnson, of Royse City and longtime friend and almost sister, Josie Cullen. Allyne also leaves behind her family at Manor Park and others throughout Midland. Her family wants to thank Dr. Shylesh Ganta for his care and devotion to Allyne and also to all of her many caregivers at Manor Park. While her family will greatly miss Allyne, we are comforted to know that she is reuniting with Craig so that their incredible journey can resume.
Friends are invited to gather at 3:00 on Wednesday, May 14th, in the Wallace Building at Manor Park for an informal celebration of Allyne’s life. Funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials in Allyne’s memory be made to Manor Park or another charitable organization that will benefit Midlanders.
Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory in Midland. Online condolences may be made at www.npwelch.com.
