Alla Ree Cherry, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2025, in Georgetown, Texas, at the age of 98.

Alla Ree was born on February 21, 1927, in Mason County, Texas, to Jake and Alice (Watkins) Eastman. She grew up alongside her brothers, Marvin and Garlon Eastman, and her sister, Margaret Anderson, all of whom preceded her in death.

A proud graduate of Courtney High School’s Class of 1945, Alla Ree lived a long and fulfilling life marked by faith, generosity, and devotion to her family. On January 15, 1949, she married the love of her life, Loris J. Cherry, with whom she shared 38 wonderful years until his passing in 1987. Together, they built a beautiful life and partnership, raising two children and operating Mansell Brine Sales for 28 years. They enjoyed many adventures together—from relaxing cruises to cherished vacations at their cabin in Ruidoso, where they loved to ski and make lifelong memories.

Alla Ree was a woman of deep faith and compassion. A charter member of Golf Course Road Church of Christ, she dedicated much of her life to serving others and supporting her church community. She was also a proud supporter of Midland Christian School, where she found joy in encouraging its mission and students.

Those who knew Alla Ree will remember her for her sharp wit, kindness, and joyful spirit. She loved playing dominoes and card games with friends and family, especially her grandchildren, whose company brought her great happiness. Her generosity knew no bounds—she never hesitated to help anyone in need and always found ways to bless others quietly and sincerely.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to KWO (Kenya Widows and Orphans) through Golf Course Road Church of Christ, a ministry dear to Alla Ree’s heart.

Alla Ree is survived by her loving daughter, Jane Ann Gabler of Fort Worth, and Jane’s children: her daughter Jessica Bone and her husband Travis, and their son Arden; and her son John Gabler, all of Fort Worth. She is also survived by her devoted son, John Cherry, and his wife Lisa of Midland, Texas, and their children: Hayden Cherry and his wife Megan, and their daughter Charlotte, of Dallas; Haley Strand and her husband Zach, and their son John Henry, also of Dallas; and Holden Cherry and his wife Amelia of Midland, Texas.

A private family service will be held to celebrate Alla Ree’s life and honor her memory.

Alla Ree Cherry’s life was a beautiful reflection of love, faith, and service. Her legacy will live on through the countless lives she touched and the family she so dearly cherished.

Alla Ree Cherry was an amazing Christian woman. We first met in 1976. She taught me so many lessons in our Christian walk. Her absolute faith that God has a bigger shovel than you do. She saw a need, she filled it. She was so much fun too. Her children were blessed to have her for a mother. I loved her. We will meet again!!

Jeff and I will always be grateful to Mrs. Cherry for her support when we made the decision to leave Midland and enroll in the Sunset School of Preaching. After 35 years of ministry we still remember her encouragement and her monthly contributions toward our living expenses. She was a kind and generous lady with a heart for spreading the gospel. Alla Ree Cherry was my beloved Aunt, my mother’s little sister whom I loved very much. She was very dear to me and my whole family. Growing up, the Cherrys would come visit us yearly when we lived in Houston. We were very close at that time. Remembering her when I was a child were my favorite years with her. She was always so much fun to be with. I played with my cousins when they came. She is the last of the Eastman family. My condolences go out to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. When we would come to Midland to visit my parents Royce & Mildred Howard, we always went to the donut shop to meet with the "Donut Gang" that met every Saturday morning. This is where I first met Alla Ree. She was delightful to visit with and an inspiration in my life. It was during this time that I realized we shared the uncommon middle name of Ree. We shared a chuckle over this. It came about because Royce and Alla Ree knew each other during their high school years. I will always cherish her as she was a wonderful Christian woman whom I looked up to.
