Albert Jesus Puga (Pops) 66, of Kyle, TX went home with The Lord Monday November 15, 2021. Funeral services will be 10:00am Saturday, November 27, 2021 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.
Viewing will be held on Friday, November 26, 2021 from 9:00am to 9:00pm, with Rosary beginning at 7:00pm at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel.
Albert was born April 14, 1954 in Big Spring, TX to Julia S. Lerma and Alberto Puga. He grew up in Big Spring and graduated from Big Spring High school where he was very active in sports and loved to play football for the Big Spring Steers. He then went on to join the Navy and served on the USS Midway where he met his wife Diane Puga of Blaine, MN. Albert and Diane Puga were married in 1978 and spent their life together where they had a beautiful marriage and resided in Austin, TX from 1986 until death. Albert worked at the University of Texas from 1993 until he retired in 2007.
He enjoyed talking to people and telling them stories of his life experiences. He had a love for music and dancing and of course football Sundays where he and his wife started a tradition and cheered on the Cowboys, Vikings and Longhorns and always joked of a house divided. He continued that tradition with his children after his wife passed. He was a loving dog dad to Dinero Puga as well! He was a proud member of St. Peters Catholic Church in Austin. Albert had a huge heart and was loved and looked up to by many due to his kindness and understanding and want to help anyone out whom needed it. He always put family and friends above himself.
He is survived by a daughter, Melissa Puga of Kyle, TX, two sons, Robert Puga Gonzales, wife Andy Gonzales of San Diego, CA, Mario Puga ,wife Sandra Puga of Austin, TX, Niece, Annissa Lerma and great nephew, Ezra Lerma of Dallas, TX, one sister Edna Lerma of Big Spring, TX, six grandchildren, Lauren and Mario J Puga of Austin, TX, and Cash, Cayden, Cruz and Cabo Gonzales of San Diego, CA. Future son in law Chris Curry of Kyle, TX. He also had family in El Paso and Big Spring and many friends.
He is also proceeded in death by his wife Diane Puga, parents Alberto Puga and Juila Lerma, and two brothers Rudy and Joe Puga.
Pallbearers will be Orlando Montanez, Charlie Montanez, Chris Curry, Willie Rangel, Michael Mata, Jose Mijares. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Mosley, Angelo Rivera and Andrew Hernandez.
