Alan Morgan was born on September 12, 1957 in Midland, Texas to Keith and Bervelene Morgan. Growing up in Midland he had fond memories of working with his dad at Ace Rental and learning how to run a business at an early age. There were a few years that he spent in East Texas in his teens attending Scurry Rosser High School in Scurry, Texas. After returning to Midland from East Texas, he attended Robert E Lee High School. He loved school so much he took a summer course at Midland High so he could graduate early in 1975. Immediately after graduation, Alan went to work for his dad at B & M Oil Tool Company, and then later went on to become the General Manager.
In 1978, he met Bill Cowden and his family. Bill would become his mentor, friend, and confidant.
While spending time with Bill on his ranch, Alan grew to love ranching, which grew into the beginning of Morgan Cattle, Morgan Farms, and Freeman Farms. Through Bill, Alan was introduced to the Bloys Church Camp Meeting in Fort Davis, Texas. He and Jiamei continued to attend annually following Bill’s passing.
In 2007, Alan was on a business trip in Beijing, China and met Jiamei Shi. They were married in Loving County in 2011; Jiamei was the love of his life. Then in 2012, a precious little blessing came along, the most beautiful little girl, Sydney Mei Morgan was born, she was Alan’s pride and joy, the apple of his eye, his world, and the most wonderful addition to his life. He loved taking her with him everywhere he went. Many times, you would see him driving down the road in his beat-up flatbed truck with Sydney in the passenger seat, and of course Chanel, the toy Australian Shepherd, sitting right between the two of them.
Family gatherings were the most important times for Alan. For years he would organize the Thanksgiving meal, delegating holiday dishes to all of the family, but made sure he was always in charge of the turkey and dressing. The last few years he would cook the turkey and dressing with the assistance of his mother. He sure didn’t want anyone to mess up his dressing, it had to have just the right amount of sage. It had to taste just like mom’s! Another favorite time of year for Alan was attending the Freeman Family Reunion in Denver City, Texas. He always enjoyed cooking and visiting with the families.
Throughout his lifetime he helped countless people in so many different ways. He had a huge heart when it came to others needing a hand, like building a fence, bailing hay, or building a house without any expectations of a payback. All of his life he was a hard worker, never really slowed down unless he was forced to, and then it was extremely hard for him to just sit still. One quality we all need to take away from Alan’s life, you could always count on him to call or go by to visit with old friends and this included his friend’s parents. He was always looking out for others.
