Three Reasons to Pick a Funeral Home That’s Locally and Family Owned

For 80 years, Nalley-Pickle & Welch has been owned and operated by the same family. In fact, our current owner, Kasi Welch Baker, is the granddaughter of our founders, Ernest and Mary Lynn Welch, and the daughter of Tommy and Teresa Welch. Three generations of the Welch family have been here to serve our community.

Why is this important for you and your family? Because there has been a major trend over the past 25 years of large corporations acquiring thousands of family-owned funeral homes. But not Nalley-Pickle & Welch. Our family is committed to serving the wonderful people of Midland and Howard Counties.

Here is the difference local, family ownership will make for you:

1.) Personal attention

Because we are locally owned, you know when you pick up the phone for a funeral or cremation service, you’ll reach one of us immediately, no matter the day or the time. Because we’re focused solely on the needs of this community, we are in a unique position to be able to respond to you quickly and pay close attention to managing all of the details of your service including the visitation, funeral, burial, and reception. When a funeral home is purchased by a remote corporation, they tend to standardize services to increase profits, resulting in cookie-cutter funerals. In contrast, Nalley-Pickle & Welch is committed to making each funeral a unique, personal tribute to the individual life that was lived.

2.) Community responsibility

Living in Midland, Big Spring, or Stanton is nothing like living in New York City, Chicago, or Los Angeles – and we’re grateful for that! Since our communities are smaller and more tightly knit, there is a pretty good chance you might see some members of our staff at church, events at school, or even at the grocery store. During difficult times, it helps to work with a familiar, friendly face. And since you’re our neighbors, we feel an increased sense of responsibility to you. We will always serve you and your family as if you were a member of our own family.

3.) Unique knowledge

Every community has its own funeral customs and traditions, and it’s impossible for corporate executives in other cities or states to be familiar with traditions of West Texas families. Our owner, our managers, and the rest of our team all live and work right here in Howard and Midland Counties. We happen to think we live in the greatest place in the country – but we might be a little biased! But we do know the unique needs, personalities, and values of the people who live in Big Spring, Midland, and Stanton. We will be able to understand your needs and wishes better than any outside conglomerate ever could.

At Nalley-Pickle & Welch, the rich legacy of Ernest Welch lives on: Honor each family. Honor their traditions and culture. Honor their faith. And keep costs within a comfortable, reasonable budget. This is what we bring to every family that trusts us to create a meaningful tribute for their loved one.

Local, family ownership. It makes all the difference.
