Our Family Serving Yours

A very wise man – an economist who lived in England during the 18th century by the name of John Bowring – once said, “A happy family is but an earlier heaven.” This is a sentiment we understand very well here at Nalley-Pickle & Welch. Family is at the heart of everything we do – and we had better like each other – after all we are together almost all the time!

You see, for three generations, Nalley-Pickle & Welch has been the premier family-owned funeral home for our neighbors in Midland and Big Spring. As a family-owned business, we have a unique understanding of what an important moment your own, or your loved one’s, funeral is for everyone in your immediate and extended family, and we are here for you to plan the most meaningful service.

It all began back in 1937, when Coy and Jessie Nalley started Nalley Funeral Home. J.C. Pickle joined as a partner and the named changed to Nalley-Pickle Funeral Home. Twenty years later another family purchased the funeral home, led by Ernest and Mary Lynn Welch. That’s when the name was changed to the one we carry today: Nalley-Pickle & Welch. The Welch family had already been in the funeral business in Big Spring for a few years, and Ernest’s philosophy was simple, but profound: a funeral is a way to celebrate the life that was lived and to reflect on a loved one’s unique accomplishments. This is the same philosophy our family – and each one of our team members – carries in our hearts today.

From the very beginning of this funeral home, we have been committed to helping other families like ours plan the most meaningful of memorials. We have the ability to listen to the stories you tell about your loved one and choose personalization options for the service, visitation, or reception, that help paint a picture of your loved one’s passions, interests, and values. When you tell us about how you and your grandmother would get together every Saturday afternoon to watch movies, and she would make you fresh kettle corn, we might suggest passing out little bags of kettle corn as guests exit the funeral service with a note about your tradition. If you’ve chosen to make your own arrangements with us ahead of time, and you mention a favorite poem or Bible verse, we will find a way to incorporate it into your tribute. Did your dad love a good, Texas barbecue feast? We can serve it for him at the reception, whether at The Branch at NPW or the Welch Reception Center.

You only get once chance to say goodbye to a beloved family member. When attention to detail and compassionate care matter most, choose a family-owned funeral home like Nalley-Pickle & Welch to help you. Our experienced, caring team will treat you as if you were a member of our own family. If you’re at your moment of need, or you want to preplan, we hope you’ll reach out to us today. We will care for your family as only another family can.
