Charles Thomas “Corky” Blocker

Charles Thomas “Corky” Blocker, 89, a lifelong resident of Stanton, Texas, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 23, 2026.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Monday, September 28, 2026, at the Stanton Church of Christ. Funeral services, with honors from the Fort Hood Army Honor Guard, will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at the Stanton High School Auditorium, with Pastor Deral McWhorter officiating.

Corky was born September 5, 1937, in Midland, Texas, to Horace S. Blocker and Noma Atchison Blocker. He married the love of his life, Sara Jane Mott on June 11, 1960, and together they made their home in Stanton, where they built a life centered around faith, family, and service.

Corky received his bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Texas Tech University and remained a lifelong and enthusiastic Texas Tech Red Raiders fan. He was drafted into the United States Army on June 28, 1960 and was honorably discharged on June 12, 1962. He was proud of his military service and grateful for the opportunity to serve his country.

Corky dedicated much of his life to serving the Stanton and Martin County community. He served as Martin County Judge for 16 years and was widely respected for his dedication to the people he served. His commitment to serving others extended well beyond the courthouse. Charles was a member of the Stanton Volunteer Fire Department for 49 years and served the Bob Deavenport Food Pantry for more than 20 years, most recently as its president.

Corky was involved in numerous local boards, organizations, and community efforts, including the Permian Basin Regional Planning Commission, Evergreen Cemetery Board, Nettie Millhollon Educational Trust, Juvenile Board, MOTRAN, Food Bank, Old Settlers, Lions Club, Old Sorehead Trade Days, Men’s Prayer Breakfast, Library Board, Martin County 4-H and Martin County Community Fund. He also served as a director of the Chamber of Commerce and was involved in the Booster Club and many other community activities throughout the years.

Perhaps most importantly, Corky was a man of deep faith. He was a lifelong member of the Downtown Church of Christ and served as an elder for 44 years, faithfully serving his church family and demonstrating his love for God throughout his life.

Corky enjoyed golfing and watching anything related to the Texas Tech Red Raiders. But above all, his greatest treasures were his faith and his family. He had a remarkable ability to make people feel known and loved, and he considered many of those around him to be part of his family. His generosity, willingness to serve, and genuine care for others left a lasting impact on countless people in his community.

Corky is survived by his wife, Sara; children, Kendel (Teresa), Koy (Tammy), and Kyle (Malinda); grandchildren, Nicole (Cody Davis), Amy (BJ Oden), Dannie (Jordan Gregg), Justin (Carie), Kaitlyn (Rance Dunn), Maegan (Kylor Fine), Kristen (Drew Snellgrove), and Bryce (Katie); 20 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; brothers Spencer and Norman; and a host of friends who loved him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Horace and Noma; sister Lila and her husband, Eddy Akridge; sisters-in-law Jere Blocker and Anita Blocker; and great-grandson Cotton Gregg.

Pallbearers will be Justin Blocker, Bryce Blocker, Rance Dunn, Cody Davis, Kylor Fine, BJ Oden, Drew Snellgrove, and Jordan Gregg. Honorary pallbearers will be Fred Bowlin, Kyle Kendall, Bud Glaspie, Bobby Holland, Brandon Ireton, Matthew Ireton, and Jonathan Ireton in honor of the late Danny Ireton.
