Kirk Talmadge French

Kirk Talmadge French, beloved husband, father, uncle, friend, and devoted advocate for animals, passed from this life in Midland, Texas, on September 1, 2026. He was born on February 9, 1942, to Lloyd Robert and Margaret Talmage French and he lived all of his life in Midland.

Kirk is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, L. R. Bobby French, Jr., and his sister, Julee French. He is survived by his wife, Barbara and their seven rescue dogs, his son, Gerald Kirk French and his wife, Charlotte and their son, Philip, sister-in-law, Marcia Fuller French, and his very kind and loving nephews and nieces.

Kirk was a man of many interests and accomplishments, but he will be remembered most for his generous spirit, his loyalty to his friends and family, and his lifelong commitment to helping animals and others. He graduated from Peacock Military Academy in San Antonio, Texas, and went on to earn a degree in Economics from Austin College in Sherman, Texas. His professional life included many years as a residential realtor, where he built lasting relationships and served his clients with integrity and dedication. For 20 years, Kirk served as Executive Director of Lone Star Sanctuary for Animals, dedicating himself to the care and protection of animals in need. His work there reflected his compassion and his belief that every animal deserved kindness, safety, and a chance for a better life. He retired from the sanctuary after two decades of devoted service.

Kirk also treasured his friendships. Among the most meaningful was his 45-year friendship with Bill W (IYKYK). Through this program, Kirk made lasting friendships, learned a better way to live, and gained a new lease on life. Kirk also remained in touch with his fraternity brothers (Austin College Drakes) and greatly valued their friendship.

No memorial service is scheduled at this time. We offer our profound thanks to his compassionate and attentive doctors and nurses, to the amazing Hospice of Midland team, and to the wonderfully kind caregivers from Home Instead. In addition, we extend our sincere appreciation to Maurice Lopez, DNP, FNP-BC whose compassionate care and consideration guided us through this difficult time.

Kirk leaves behind a legacy of kindness, service, friendship, and love. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him and in the countless lives made better by his compassion. He will be remembered, he will be missed, and he will always be loved. May he rest in eternal peace in the presence of Jesus.
