She was born on December 31, 1937, in Colorado City, TX to James Augusta Stiager and Mary Ethel “Nana” (Calloway) Stiager. Mickey worked for the Big Spring ISD as a teacher aide for over 40 years. Her dedication to the children and families she served was an important part of who she was.
Mickey treasured her family and the life she shared with her beloved husband, Marvin Lee Butts. Marvin was her partner, companion, and the love of her life. Together, Mickey and Marvin built a life filled with family, memories, laughter, and love. Their marriage was a lasting and meaningful part of Mickey’s life, and the years they shared together remained precious to her. Even after Marvin’s passing, the love they shared continued to be an important part of her story.
Mickey found joy in the simple things she loved. She enjoyed playing bingo, dancing at the Senior Center, and spending time with her cats, which she adored. And anyone who knew Mickey knew just how much she loved George Strait.
Mickey and Marvin shared a life centered around family, and the love they poured into their children and grandchildren remains part of their lasting legacy. Mickey is survived by their daughter, Jan Sloan (Jerry), and grandchildren Heather and J.J.; their son, Jimmy Butts (Pat), and grandchildren Christi, Haley, Randi, and Kelsey; their son, Russell Butts (Wayna), and grandchildren Bradlee and Johnathan; and their daughter, Kristi Bradley (Brent), and granddaughter Jacie. She leaves behind 15 great-grandchildren as well, continuing the family she and Marvin built together.
Mickey’s heart was big enough to make family of those she loved, and she considered Debbie Holly; Gracie and William Sheen; Kenny Wayne Awtry; and Mary Ann Guevara, Boy Rodriguez, and Jason Guevara to be her children of the heart. They held a special and cherished place in Mickey’s life, and the love she shared with them was just as real and meaningful as any family bond.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Lee Butts and her parents.
She leaves behind not only the family she and Marvin created, but also a family she gathered along the way who will carry her love with them. Though she is now reunited with Marvin, the love they shared will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved them both.
