Sharon Andrea Smith Hyde, 79, passed away on March 22, 2026. She was born on July 6, 1946, in Salem, Illinois, to Eulalia Heath Smith and Everett L. Smith.
Sharon was raised in Midland, Texas, where she developed a lifelong love of music and community. She graduated from Robert E. Lee High School and went on to attend West Texas State University, earning degrees in music and education. Her gift for music was evident to all who knew her, and she shared that gift generously throughout her life.
Sharon married the love of her life on April 14, 1973 after meeting him at jury duty!
Sharon performed in numerous musicals with the Midland Community Theatre, bringing joy to audiences with her voice and presence. She was also deeply committed to her church, First Baptist Church of Midland, where she led the children’s and youth choirs for many years. Through her leadership, she inspired generations of young people to discover their own love of music and worship.
Sharon’s musical talents extended beyond the stage and choir loft. She was an accomplished pianist and handbell player, and her performances were cherished by her church and community. Her Christmas solo became a beloved tradition, often marking the true beginning of the holiday season for many who gathered to hear her sing.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, the Honorable John G. Hyde; and her brother, Carey Lance Smith.
She is survived by her daughter, Hillary Lovell and her husband, Ryan Lovell; her daughter, Whitney Hyde; and the delight of her life, her grandchildren, Katherine Lovell and John Lovell. She is also survived by her brothers, Gregor Smith and his wife, Sue, Alan Smith and his wife, Exa, and Stephen Smith and his wife, Kaye; her sisters-in-law, Clemence Smith and Darla Martin; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
Sharon will be remembered for her warmth, her devotion to her faith, and the beauty she brought into the world through music. Her legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched with her kindness, guidance, and song.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to the Music Ministry of First Baptist Church of Midland or Manor Park Foundation.
A celebration of Sharon’s life will be held at First Baptist Church Chapel Tuesday, March 31, 2026 at 2 P.M., with visitation on Monday, March 30, 2026 from 5-7 P.M at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. Interment will follow the church service at Resthaven Memorial Park.
