Conrad Lavelle Mezick, 59, of Big Spring, TX, passed away on June 9, 2024. The family will welcome friends and loved ones for visitation from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Sunday, June 16, 2024, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. A Graveside service will begin at 2:00 PM on June 17, 2024, at the Mount Olive Cemetery Chapel.
Conrad Lavelle Mezick was born on August 6, 1964, in Big Spring, TX, to Beamon Blev (“Red”) and Esther Jamie Mezick. Of six siblings, Conrad was the only boy. Conrad was a man of Christian faith and held God dear to his heart. Many loved Conrad for his sweet, kind, and gentle heart. His family will miss the joy and laughter he brought to our lives.
A talented musician, Conrad shared his love of music with family and friends by strumming on the guitar and beating the drums. He could fill a room with fine-tuned music that would impress a crowd or entertain his nieces and nephews by making up silly lyrics. Conrad enjoyed fishing and could smoke a mean brisket. He was a dedicated fan of the Houston Oilers football team, and his loyalty remained even when they transitioned to the now Tennessee Titans. He also loved watching wrestling and cheering on his favorite baseball team, the Atlanta Braves.
Conrad began his career with The Big Spring Herald in the early ’80s, working with them for a little over a decade. He added to his work experience at the TexaStone Quarries for several years until he made his way to Clovis, New Mexico. By 2009, Conrad ventured to Puerto Rico, earning a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science at the American University of Puerto Rico. He returned to Texas/New Mexico in 2013 to be near his siblings and became a manager in the food industry.
Conrad is survived by his daughter, Paola Villalta; two grandchildren, Ashton Gray and Dylan Gray; five sisters, Christina Price (Mike) of Fort Worth, TX, Aurora Lozano (Phillip) of Hobbs, NM, Joelle Ludington of Big Spring, TX, Deborah Cantu (Manuel) of Big Spring, TX, and Rose Baker (Galya Whitehouse) of Midland, TX; three nephews, three nieces, 15 great nephews, five great nieces, and one great-great niece.
Conrad is preceded in death by his grandparents, Aristeo and Emeteria Jaime Munoz; parents, Beamon (Red) and Esther Jaime Mezick; and uncles, Daniel Munoz, Domingo (Zeke) Munoz, Elias Munoz, and Jimmy Munoz.
The family would like to express gratitude to all those in the medical industry who worked with Conrad during hospital stays, procedures, and rehabilitation. Their efforts to provide him with quality care and comfort did not go unnoticed. We also express our heartfelt thanks to Nalley Pickle & Welch for their patience and compassion while attending to our requests in preparing Conrad to enter the gates of Heaven upon God’s return.
16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17 then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. 18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words. – 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18 (KJV)
