Whether he was kayaking the Panama Canal with alligators, parasailing in Athens, decorating homes, hosting parties, or spending time with his beloved family, James Earl Van Stavern was born with the natural gift of making the mundane an adventure. Born August 18, 1948 to the late Earl and Ruby Van Stavern in Sundown, Texas, James was a tidal wave of energy and spirit.
At 26, he found his ultimate match with his wife Debbie Van Stavern. For 47 years what a pair they made. She booked the trips and stocked the fridge, while he led the conversations and laughter. With the addition of their son Blade and daughter Lauren, they lived life with an abundance of God’s love to share. Sharing stories, laughs, drinks, their home, their vacations, and their hearts – there was always room at their table.
He founded Van Stavern Interiors in 1986. Never one to shy away from color, James was bold and bright in all things. His designs lived and breathed art, culture, and lighthearted fun. His Midas touch gave his clients a one-of-a-kind experience. His artistic flair, Hawaiian shirts, trimmed mustache, and ability to make everything fabulous will be greatly missed.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Ruby Van Stavern, his brother, Larry and his wife, Debbie. Left to carry his legacy are his children, Blade and wife Dana, Lauren and husband Matt and six grandchildren who adored their PeePaw, Bella, Halston, Everett, Eli, Michael and Cameron.
