Jerry Wayne Mitchell, of Coahoma, passed away on Thursday, February 1, 2024. Jerry was born on January 4, 1950, the middle of three children, to J.C. and Myrle Mitchell in Dawson, County Texas.
Jerry graduated from Klondike High School and became a welder in the oil industry. Jerry married Patricia Ward on September 13, 1975, enjoying 48 years of marriage. Together they settled in Coahoma and raised 3 wonderful children, Melinda, Corky, and Jerriann. Throughout his career, Jerry owned welding shops in Patricia and Coahoma as well as a pumping unit repair business. Later, he became a roustabout and pumper in the oil field, always working hard to provide for his family. Jerry never met a stranger and could tell some of the best tall tales. He was also a generous soul who never failed to help those in need. Jerry loved all children, but he especially loved his three grandchildren.
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, his son, and his brother, James Mitchell.
He is survived by his loving and faithful wife Patty, daughters Melinda Smith of Coppell, Texas and Jerriann Malone and husband Benjamin of Coahoma. He is also survived by three treasured grandchildren, Cash Mitchell, Gracen Malone, and Hadleigh Malone. Additionally, he is survived by his little sister and brother-in-law Laura and Michael Robason of Lamesa and a massive extended family of brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, February 5, 2024 at Coahoma Cemetery, with Benjamin Malone officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM, Sunday, February 4, 2024 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Chase Ward, Derek Ward, Riley Hipp, Travis Hipp, Bryan Robason, and Cash Mitchell. Honorary pallbearers include Jamison Ward and Tyler Garcia.
