Leah Jan Hughes departed this life on Thursday, December 28, 2023 at her residence. The family will receive friends from 5pm-7pm, Wednesday, January 3, 2024 in the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 2pm, Thursday, January 4, 2024 at 14th & Main Church of Christ. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.
Leah was born April 3, 1956 in Big Spring, Texas to Gerald and Leona (Lancaster) Roman. Leah attended school at Sands ISD. She obtained many associate degrees from Howard College. She married Ricky Hughes the summer of 1973 in Mexico. Leah and Ricky started their farming business in Knott. She was active in all aspects of their farming operation. Leah also worked at Quigley’s flowers and gifts. While being a stay-at-home mom she did taxidermy, in Knott. She worked with Linda Roman Crop insurance and Linda’s Country Store on N. 87. Serving her favorite Peach Cobbler. Big Spring Livestock Auction is where she spent many days working for Dr. Joe Neff assisting him in examining cattle for sale. Leah obtained her EMT certificate and was employed by the Ambulance service in Big Spring. Later she received her real estate license and worked for Home & J Rutledge Realty until she retired.
After retirement she did what she loved most. She spent time with her Grandkids fishing with them in her pond and going to many of their sporting events. She also loved working in her yard and taking care of her animals.
Above all her accomplishments she Loved the Lord. A loving friend, Cousin, Aunt, Sister, Mom and MEME. She loved and was loved by everyone.
Leah is survived by her son Wes Hughes and wife Hailey of Stanton; daughter, Kara Crenshaw and husband Bucky of Big Spring; sister Rene’ Beall and husband Joe Paul of Big Spring; sister-in-law Connie Zant and husband David of Ackerly; Mother in-law Joe Hughes of Ackerly; five grandchildren, Colten Hughes, Brock Hughes, Londyn Hughes, Hannah Crenshaw, and Hudson Crenshaw; four nieces and nephews, Jerrod Beall, Stuart Beall, Cal Zant, and Hollie Epperson; and numerous cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ricky Hughes; her parents Jerry Roman and Leona Roman; Grandparents, Fred and Velma Roman and Oren and Eva Lancaster.
