Debbie was born on July 23, 1975, in Corpus Christi, Texas, to Esperanza Hinojosa. She spent most of her childhood there before moving to Stanton, Texas. Debbie graduated from Stanton High School in 1993. She then moved to Midland, Texas, while working and attending Midland College. Debbie became a police cadet at the City of Midland in 1994. After graduating Midland College and then from the Permian Basin Law Enforcement Academy, Debbie became a police officer for the City of Midland in 1997. Debbie worked in several divisions within the department until she retired in February 2017. Most recently, she was a realtor for Keller Williams and a receptionist for Henry Resources.
Debbie was a wonderful mom and always made time to make lasting memories with her children Eric and Isabelle. Debbie supported her children in all their endeavors and was always present for her children and their friends. She and her children travelled frequently within and out of the country creating unique experiences and memories. She loved and enjoyed caring for the family dogs Roxy, Nala, and the late Bentley. In her spare time, you could often find her in her happy place which was her courtyard. There she spent peaceful time and tended to her beautiful flowers. It is widely known that Debbie never met a stranger. She could talk to anyone and everyone and loved to socialize with those close to her. Debbie was a force of energy, strength, and love. Her smile and personality would brighten any room. She had a passion for music and dancing with the rhythm of Selena and the voice of JLo. She entertained any audience in her presence. Her love of the Lord showed in her daily life. Through everything she did His light shined through her and to those around her. To know her was to love her.
Debbie is survived by her children Eric Barnes and Isabelle Barnes both of Midland, Texas. She is preceded in death by her mother Esperanza Hinojosa, brother Johnnie Cortez, sisters Elena Avalos and Guadalupe Cortez.
The family would like to thank everyone in Debbie’s circles for their prayers and support. Memorial donations can be made to the American Cancer Society. A GoFundMe account has been set up and can be accessed by the following link: https://gofund.me/41f1e759.
