Cleta Faye Satterwhite, 86, of Big Spring and formerly of Odessa, passed away Thursday, November 10, 2022. The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm, Sunday, November 13, 2022 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at Trinity Memorial Park’s Peace Chapel at 3:00 pm, Monday, November 14, 2022.
Cleta was born October 14, 1936 in Colorado City, Texas to the late Elton Raymond Yancey and Eddie Adell (Davis) Yancey. She graduated from Colorado City High School in 1955, where she had been a member of the girls’ varsity basketball team. She had worked for the Ector County Independent School District and was head custodian for the Ireland Elementary School. She had also worked at Wall’s Clothiers in Big Spring, building walls at Cameo Mobile Homes, and at the Holsum Bakery in Odessa. She was a member of Belmont Baptist Church, Odessa. Cleta was devoted to her family. She loved to play games with them or cook for them. She also enjoyed gardening and working in her yard. Another attribute was her love of animals which was to the point her family referred lovingly to her as animal rescue.
She is survived by her sons, Robert Smith and his wife Denise of Big Spring; and Terry Smith and his wife Amy of Granbury; 5 granddaughters, Nicole Wilcox (Terry), Chesnei Offill (Matthew), Stormi Smith, Reba Strebeck (William), and Jaelynn Smith; 1 grandson, Joseph Hernandez; 3 great-grandchildren, Zoey Wilcox, Reagan Strebeck, and Thomas Strebeck; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Cleta was preceded in death by her husband, William Edward Satterwhite; her son, James Chrisman “Chris” Smith; a sister, Verna Lee Turner; and a brother, Darrell Eugene Yancey.
Pallbearers will be Kalob Burnett, William Strebeck, Adam Juarez, Matthew Hall, Jared Wells and Dakota Griffith.
