Judy Bruner, 77 of Midland, passed away on Monday, May 30, 2022. Graveside services will be held at 3:00pm, Saturday, June 4, 2022 at Resthaven Memorial Park. A reception for family and friends will be held following the service at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.
Judith Ann Bruner was born on March 26, 1945 in Williamson, West Virginia to Jackie and Buddy Marcum. She grew up in Virginia Beach, Virginia, a community she adored and held a special place in her heart for all of her life. There she attended Virginia Beach High School where she was active in choir and served as the art director for the school newspaper, the Beachcomber. She graduated from Norfolk General Hospital Nursing School with a Nursing degree in 1967 where she was the student body president in her senior year. After graduation, she married and moved to Texas that same year, living in Austin, El Paso, and Abilene before settling in Midland in 1975 to raise her family and where she called home for the rest of her life.
Judy worked as a registered nurse for over 35 years. She was extremely proud of her profession and the care she brought to others through her service. She was dedicated to her patients and, later as a nurse manager, to her staff. After spending time at Holy Cross, Brackenridge, and St. David’s Hospitals in Austin, she spent the rest of her career working at Midland Memorial Hospital & Medical Center from 1981 until retiring in 2011 as a RN BSN Nurse Manager. An ardent learner, one of her proudest achievements was graduating from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1994. Judy had a lifelong love of books and a passion for reading that she passed on to her children. She loved stories about ghosts and fantasy, and grew up watching westerns and Star Trek, comforts she would always return to. She drew, wrote stories, collected antiques, and loved delving into genealogy and enjoying the bonds and connections that surfaced with each discovery of a distant relation. She loved to travel when she was able to, and an especially memorable trip to Ireland with her beloved Aunt Peggy was a highlight of her retirement.
Judy is survived by her sons, Michael Bruner and Marc Bruner, and her grandchildren Michael Shane, Alden, Jacob, Adelaide, Tristram, and Graham, that she delighted in and loved seeing grow up; her cousin – whom she considered a sister – Margaret Ann Williams; numerous cousins and relations; her dear friend Carol Hicks; and her cherished pets Remi, Nikki, Agnes and Oreo. Judy is preceded in death by her father and mother Jackie and Buddy. Judy shared her light with all she met and will be missed.
The family would like to express their gratitude towards the doctors and staff at Midland Memorial Hospital, Visiting Angels and Home Hospice WTX for their care over Judy.
