Rodney Rae Maxson went to be with his Lord and Savior May 17, 2022 at Midland Memorial Hospital. He was born in Arkansas City, Kansas June 19, 1929 to Noble Maxson and Violet Reed Maxson. He was the youngest of 3 boys. Rodney was a very caring child and rode his bike home each noon in grade school to check on his mother who was sick and passed away the year he graduated from Arkansas City High School.
He served in the Korean War from 1951 until 1953 in the US Army Infantry regiment, 7th infantry division, participating in major battles at Triangle Hill and White Horse Mountain
Upon his return home, he married Mildred Reinking and they were married for 68 years this past November. He returned to college and graduated from Oklahoma A & M. He was in the last graduating class before it became Oklahoma State. His degree was in Geology but his working career was as a Petroleum Engineer which was his minor. . He began his career with Dowell and after 10 years went into production. He worked first for Layton Oil Company, then Texas Pacific Oil Company and he retired from Sun Oil Company as a production superintendent in 1987.
After he retired he and Millie joined Laborers for Christ for 5 years and helped build 8 churches. He spent the next 12 years as a regional consultant for the organization making presentations in Oklahoma, Texas and Arkansas. He was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church for many years and held a number of offices. He loved music. He played French horn in band and was a member of the church choir beginning in his childhood. He then became a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church and was Building Chairman when they built their new facility on north Garfield in Midland. The Laborers for Christ group aided in building the church.
Rod was a loving father, a conscientious and dedicated employee and trustworthy in all his endeavors. Rod was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and his youngest daughter Tammie.
He is survived by his wife Millie, daughter Debra Lawrence of Midland, son Kent (Cindy) Maxson of Nashville, TN, daughter Joan (Steve) Mayo of Dennison, TX. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Services will be Friday, May 27 at 1:00pm at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 5110 N. Garfield St., Midland, TX. Interment of ashes will be a private family ceremony earlier that morning. Memorials may be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church or the charity of your choice.
