Russell Lamar Byrom

Russell was born October 23, 1969. Baby Russ’s baby bed was placed in his sister Carrie’s bedroom on Dengar St., which 2nd grader Carrie loved having the baby bed in her bedroom & bookworm Carrie used to have a special reading spot under his baby bed. Those were the good old days when the Byrom family consisted of Dad Neil, Mom Bonnie, baby Russ, sister Carrie, & brother Clay. When Russ was around 2 years old, the family purchased a larger home on Marmon Dr. Only 4 years later into the change of residence, our Dad Neil tragically passed away at the young age of 44, just 4 months after we found out he was sick. Russ was barely turned 6 years old when he lost his precious Dad. Neil’s sudden tragic death forever changed the lives of ALL the Byrom children. Carrie & Clay continued growing closer to Russ, as we babysat him throughout our High School years & we loved him very much. After High School in 1980, both Carrie & Clay moved out for a few months, not knowing that our Mom would send 10 year old Russell away to live in the Lubbock State School for the next 16 years, until age 26. Russ was born Special Needs, but he had great potential in his younger years & he loved music & musical instruments, learning, his family, & coming home. Russ had always been a special client of MARC in Midland for his first 10 years. Moving Russ to Lubbock forever changed all of our lives once again. In 1990, Russell survived Brain Tumor surgery in Lubbock, & we were so happy that it was benign, & that they got it all out. In 1996, our Mom got Russ in with Lubbock Daybreak Group Homes, where Russ lived in several different Group Homes in Lubbock from 1996 until he passed away on April 6, 2022. Russell did not have an easy life by any means – and he is the STRONGEST one of any of us. I’ll forever miss my baby brother Russell. He passed away at only age 52, after living in Lubbock for 42 years. The special little boy turned child-man is forever gone now.
