Bobbie Wood Scott

Bobbie Wood Scott, 96, passed away peacefully in her sleep Saturday, February 5, 2022. Bobbie was born November 16, 1925 in Wichita Falls, Texas to Ollie Lee Wood and May Vaughn Wood. She had one older sister, Eleanor Wood Simpson who lived in Houston. Bobbie graduated from Midland High School where she was a member of the Model Airplane Club and learned woodworking from her shop teacher after school.

She went on to own her own equipment and become a master woodworker. This hobby would be a lifelong passion that she shared with her husband, Frank, and their children, Eleanor and Tommy. She loved knowing how to repair her own equipment, mastering the details and using that craftsmanship to create beautiful pieces of furniture. It wasn’t surprising that when Bobbie went to Texas Tech University, she studied engineering and used those skills for many many years.

She worked for the Santa Fe Railroad in Artesia, NM that traveled between Artesia and Roswell NM.  While in New Mexico, she would take the train to Colorado to ski. She played tennis but she loved skiing. Her solo skiing adventures took her to Vail, Winter Park, Sun Valley and Aspen Colorado.  Later, she would move to Midland and take a job as a mechanical draftsman for Atlantic Refining Company. It was here that she met Charles Franklin Thomas (Frank) Scott. They were married October 18, 1952 at First Presbyterian Church of Midland. Soon after they were married, Bobbie and Frank had two children, Eleanor and Tommy. Frank, Eleanor and Tommy were the loves of her life.

As a family they would take vacations in their travel trailer to parts of Texas, Colorado and Cloudcroft, NM.; fishing, hiking, tying flies, painting, morse code practice on the ceiling.  It was so much fun. She loved it all because they were together. For many years, Bobbie had a very successful monogramming business. She would do her monogramming for numerous stores in Midland and Odessa. Bobbie and Frank also started a very successful framing business, Scotts Frame Shop. In addition to framing for individuals, they also supplied Gibson stores in Big Spring, Midland and Odessa with a variety of miniature frames. She could cook, paint, sew, take a bicycle apart and put it back together again, quilt, garden, and more. Her interests were endless and if she didn’t know how to do something, she taught herself. She was creative, inspiring and a gift from God as a mother.

After retirement, Bobbie and Frank spent the summers in Cloudcroft, NM at the Chalet Camper Village. All the grandkids spent many a memorable night full of laughter, fun, camp fires, and good food at the trailer.  Bobbie and Frank’s love for woodworking lead them to build wooden toys to sell at the craft shows in West Texas under the name “Keepsake Toys”. Tommy has been blessed with the same woodworking passion as his mother and Eleanor followed in her artistic footsteps.

Bobbie always showed a never-ending loyalty for her family, providing for them and always loving them more than could be fully understood. She always said God had truly blessed her.

Bobbie, Mom, BobBob, Aunt Bobbie. She was all of these. She was very loved and will be missed beyond measure.

Bobbie is preceded in death by her parents, Ollie Lee and May Vaughn Wood, her sister, Eleanor Wood Simpson, and Bobbie’s husband, Frank Scott.  She is survived by her daughter, Eleanor Scott Leeper and husband Stan of Midland, Texas, son Tommy Scott and wife Jan of Shreveport, Louisiana; grandchildren, Shawn Leeper Johnston and husband Jeffrey of Midland Texas, Erin Leeper and wife Jana of Plano, Texas, Rachel Scott Florence and husband Nick of Waco, Texas, Joshua Scott and wife Lindsey of Shreveport; and seven great grandchildren, Kayleigh, Ethan and Joel Johnston, Ella Kate and Judah Florence, Kellyn Leeper, and Camden Scott.

The graveside service will be held at Resthaven Cemetery in Midland, Texas on Saturday, February 12 at 3:00 p.m.
