It’s time to set the record straight. Sharon Rhney Taylor, 78 of Midland Texas, passed away on October 28, 2021 after a brief illness. Please note that all purported “sightings” of Sharon on her broom from various locations around the world during the Halloween weekend are fake news. A celebration of life will be on Monday, November 8 at 1:00 pm. The Service will be at Fannin Terrace Baptist Church in Midland, Texas; with a reception for friends and family to follow.
Sharon was born in Ryan, Oklahoma on September 10, 1943 to Marcella and T.H Mitchell. Sharon was the 5th of 6 children, the only girl in a family of boys. The family moved to Wichita Falls and Ft. Worth before finally coming to rest in Midland. Sharon graduated from Midland High School before going on to North Texas University to study accounting. She moved back to Midland to work as a Land Secretary for various oil companies, including Amarillo Oil and Gas and Texaco. Sharon married Mickey Taylor of Midland and had two children, Mark Taylor and Daniel Taylor. She was involved in Little League Baseball, scouting and Wilshire Park Baptist Church while her children were growing up in Midland.
Once Sharon’s children ceased their deadbeat slacker lifestyles and gave her grandchildren, she morphed into her most infamous role; Nana. But she didn’t stop at being Nana to just her grandkids. Through years of faithful service in the nursery at Fannin Terrace Baptist Church, she was able to be Nana to a large assortment of children. An entire generation of little angels grew up learning from her that God loved them, Jesus died for their sins, but they better not run in church. She will be missed and her passing leaves a hole in the world that will not quickly be filled.
Sharon is preceded in death by her brothers Eddie Mitchell of Midland Texas, and Jerrie Mitchell of Fort Worth, Texas.
She is survived by three brothers, Jim Mitchell of Midland, Texas, Roddie Mitchell and his wife Faye Mitchell, of Las Lunas, New Mexico, and Mike Mitchell of Midland, Texas; her two sons and their wives; Daniel and Cindy Taylor, and Mark and Dana Taylor; her grandchildren, Chyann Grizell and her husband Tyler, Blake Boney, Avery Taylor, Jake Taylor and wife Leslie Taylor, Marcie Taylor, Manyang Aluong, Chol Mathiang, and Thuom Aluong Mathiang.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Midland Memorial Hospital and their wonderful and caring employees and the way they took care of Nana in her last days. Acta non verba.
