Jennie Florine Kohanek, of Shallowater, Texas, passed away Tuesday, October 5, 2021 in Lubbock. A graveside service will be held on Monday, October 11 at 1:00 pm at Mt. Olive Chapel in Big Spring, Texas.
She will lie in state at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home Saturday, October 9 from 8 am till 9 pm and Sunday, October 10, from 1 pm till 9 pm.
She was born on September 8, 1934 in Marlin, Texas to Elijah and Genevieve Cass. She married Edward Russell Kohanek on September 7, 1951 at the First Christian Church in Big Spring. They lived in Big Spring until 1977 when they moved to Shallowater, TX. She was an Avon representative in Big Spring and Shallowater and later worked as an administrative assistant at Reese AFB. She enjoyed traveling, camping, gardening and sewing. Mom and dad were camp hosts at Blanco State Park for many years. They were active in the Christian church and attended Lubbockview and Westmont churches. Mom also enjoyed ringing hand bells and playing her flute.
Survivors include her husband of 70 years, Eddie, children: Diana (Jo) Best, Jennie (Tim) Tindol, Steve (Waynette) Kohanek, Keith (Teresa) Kohanek and Jennifer (Curtis) Thurman, 19 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren, plus several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son David and infant son Bryan, brothers Keith Cass, James Cass and sister Roberta Voight.
