Janet Linn Abner, 62, of Big Spring, TX passed away on September 23, 2021, surrounded by family and friends in Big Spring, TX.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, September 30, 2021 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel.
Family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 at the Heritage Museum, 510 Scurry St., Big Spring, TX.
Janet was born September 11, 1959 in Houston, Texas to Betty Petty & Roy Loftin.
Janet married Richard Abner on November 7, 1982. They had two amazing daughters, Chelsea and Katlin.
She graduated from Forsan High School in 1979 and worked at the Big Spring State Hospital for many years and drove back and forth to Odessa pursuing her bachelors and master’s degrees in psychology from the University of Texas of the Permian Basin. She obtained her degrees and was a Psychologist.
Janet, Rich and the girls were involved with softball in every aspect of the game. As the girls grew more competitive in the sport you would find them on the road every week to a tournament all over the state. This love for sports was a center of their lives all the way through high school and in college. It was always softball for Chelsea and for Katy it grew into volleyball, softball and pole vaulting. That competitive spirit was a driving force for many years. Once the girls graduated Janet and Rich decided they were better friends and went their separate ways.
Once the girls graduated, she started her second career as a Behavior/Life skills Special Education Teacher for Coahoma, ISD. Her students became her life then. She worked so hard to make sure that they have every opportunity just like everyone else. They had a program where the students would make homemade cinnamon rolls and coffee and go around and deliver it to all the teachers on campus.
In her free time, she worked at the Heritage Museum in the archives, and helping with special events. Her favorite event of the year was the Christmas Tree Forest, she would coordinate all the trees being decorated and she would even decorate the most beautiful trees. She would enlist Chelsea, Kelsey, Katy, Robert, Aubrey and Kaden to come and dress up for the theme of the forest.
When she was not teaching or organizing, she enjoyed spending time with her grandkids and nieces. She loved getting to watch Aubrey play softball and volleyball. Kaden play soccer and football. When Hagen came this year, she loved just getting to hold and love him. Sam, she helped navigate through her first year in college and Gracie with her education.
Janet is best remembered as one of the most selfless loving people in this world who was a mother, Nonie, sister, aunt, teacher and a friend to all. She would give you the shirt off her back and would do anything to make sure life was just a little bit better for everyone she touched.
