Phil Macey Hinson

Phil Macey Hinson, 67, went to be with his Lord and Savior on September 20, 2021. Phil was born on March 6, 1954, to Herschel and Mildred Hinson in Hobbs, New Mexico. They resided in Lovington, NM where at the age of 13, he asked Jesus into his heart in a little Nazarene church.
Phil met the love of his life and his soulmate, Pat, in government class in Lovington High School. They married after graduation on August 4, 1972, and shared 49 years together. They attended New Mexico State Junior College in Hobbs, NM where Phil ran track. He was an amazing athlete throughout his life and loved sports. They then attended New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, NM.
After college, he farmed east of Lovington, then in 1981 he went to work in the oilfield for Amoco in Hobbs, NM. He worked for Amoco/Oxy for 27 years until his retirement. His work took him all over southeast NM and west Texas. He was a dedicated and dependable worker and built lasting relationships everywhere he went.
Phil and Pat raised 3 children and enjoyed every moment with their 7 grandchildren. Phil is survived by his wife Pat; two sisters, Gale Hinson and Marsha Welch; daughter Stacy and husband Todd Jones of Midland, son Austin and wife Kendra of Andrews, and son Kelsey and wife Tara of New Home. Phil’s grandchildren were the highlight of his life – Hannah, Kaitlyn, Tobi, Emily, Will, Maddox, and Mila. He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Charles Hinson.
At age 20, Phil became a deacon at the Westside Baptist Church in Las Cruces, NM. This was the beginning of a lifetime of service for our Lord. He was the spiritual leader of his household and a mentor for others. His service included being a leader of RA’s, Sunday School Teacher, VBS teacher, youth leader, part-time preacher, and prayer-warrior.
At the age of 54, Phil underwent a double lung transplant. After several years and numerous complications, they removed one of the lungs. He survived his remaining years with only one lung. He survived 13 years after his transplant and made the most out of everyday he had. It created many medical complications for him which put him into contact with many doctors, nurses, and medical staff. His transplant allowed him to witness to his doctors and nurses and did so until his passing. Not only were some of the doctors and nurses his caregivers, but many of them came to become some of his closest friends.
Phil loved being outdoors. He loved fishing, boating, painting, windmills, old tractors, vacuuming, reading newspapers, arrowhead collecting, rocks, and sunsets. He loved to laugh and had a dry sense of humor and quick wit. He could fix anything and loved eating Grandma’s cooking.

Funeral services will be at the Stanton Baptist Church in Stanton, TX 10:00 on Thursday September 23. Graveside services will follow at 3:00 CST in Antioch, New Mexico. Visitation will be at Gilbreath Funeral Home in Stanton at 5:00-7:00 pm Wednesday September 22, 2021. Arrangements are under the direction of Gilbreath Funeral Home.
