Alvin Lynn Hall

Alvin Lynn Hall died on August 13, 2021 at Midland Memorial Hospital. He was born December 25, 1928, in Baldwin Park, California to Amos Lynn Hall and Zella Josephine Bashore Hall and grew up nearby in Pomona. After graduating from Covina Union High School, Al served in the United States Navy during the Korean conflict. In recent years he participated in reunions of his squadron, and joined in their efforts to establish a memorial of their service together at Whitby Island, Washington. Al displayed his patriotism daily by flying the American flag outside his home.

Following his service in the Navy, Al attended San Jose State College where he played football while earning a degree in aerospace engineering. During this time, he met and married his first wife, Norma. After graduating, he worked in the aerospace industry for various companies including Hughes Aircraft and Litton. He and Norma raised their children in the very special place of Monte Nido, Calabasas, California. While a resident of Calabasas, Al served as a Boy Scout leader and President of the Chamber of Commerce. After twenty-five years in the aerospace industry, Al left engineering to pursue his passion for cooking. Moving to the Central Coast of California, he opened three restaurants.

In 1990 following the death of his first wife, Al married Mary Lou Anton. After retiring, the couple moved first to Salem, Oregon, and later to Midland, Texas, spending over thirty happy years together wintering in Mexico and traveling to numerous places in the United States and around the world. Once in Midland, Al and Mary Lou made and enjoyed many wonderful friends at Manor Park. He volunteered with Hospice of Midland and was active in the life of Grace Presbyterian Church.

Al was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Norma, and sisters Dorothy Roach and Evelyn Boothby. Survivors include his loving wife, Mary Lou; his children, Lori Hokit (Kevin), and Greg Hall, his grandchildren Jessica Mathis (Dwayne) and Derrick Hokit, and his great-grandchildren Jennifer Mathis, Daleyza Mathis, Jackson Hokit, and Oliver Hokit.

Also surviving him are Mary Lou’s children, Doug Anton (Carole), Sue Einspahr (Phil), Mary Beth Anton (Jeff Hewett), and grandchildren, Rob Anton (Vanessa), Emily Anton, Thomas Einspahr, Mary Einspahr, David Hewett (Alyssa Hatton), Ellie Hewett, and great-granddaughter, Sofia Anton.

A memorial service will be held at Grace Presbyterian Church in Midland on Thursday, August 19, 2021, at 4:00 p.m., with the Reverend Cheryl Homsher officiating.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Premila Johnson and Maurice Lopez for their kind care of Al throughout his time in Midland, and is especially grateful to the hospitalists, nurses, and staff on the eighth floor of Midland Memorial who diligently looked after Al in the final stages of his life.
