Gregory Wayne Henry, 59, of Big Spring, passed away, Monday, July 5, 2021. He will lie in state from 8:30 AM until 9:00 PM Friday, July 9, 2021 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Saturday, July 10, 2021 at the First Baptist Church.

Gregory Wayne Henry born August 8, 1961 in Big Spring, Texas to Wayne Henry and Londa Coker Henry. He graduated from Big Spring High School and Southwest Texas State University. He married Lori Henry in 1988 and they lived in Big Spring, Mt Pleasant and Arlington before returning to Big Spring in 2015.

Greg’s jobs included Howard College Asst. Baseball Coach, North East Texas College Asst. Baseball Coach, Clarendon Jr College Facilities Director of Development and Clarendon Bank Marketing Director. He was an excellent salesman with an eye to detail and incredible patience to win the sale. It was no surprise that these skills helped him build a successful used pallet company in Dallas with two partners, Philip Shoffner and Travis Burgess.

In his most recent position as Executive Director of the Big Spring Area Community Foundation he found joy and success yet again as he “jumped in the deep end” with all he had and quickly brought the Foundation to a broader public awareness. He served the community on the boards of Rotary, Chamber of Commerce and Runnels Classical Christian Academy.

He was an active member of Life Church and involved with several ministries of the church.

He had multiple interests and he was as comfortable in a boardroom as on a horse. As a baseball coach, he developed baseball players and nourished lifelong relationships with them. He was especially proud of the JUCO World Series Championship that they won in 1996.

He had a strong Christian faith and valued his Christian heritage. He loved to study the Bible and wrote over 300 Cowboy devotionals that used the many activities of a working ranch to illustrate God’s love, truth, creation and salvation.

He was a great athlete who excelled in football, baseball, golf, snow skiing, and waterskiing. His love for the outdoors was only surpassed by his love for people. He never met a stranger. He was the life of the party and would make everyone laugh with his illustrative way of telling stories.

He was preceded in death by his father, Wayne Henry and grandparents, Lonnie & Evlyn Coker and Woodrow & Cecil Henry and aunt, Gloria Petterson.

He is survived by his wife Lori Henry of Big Spring; his mother Londa Henry of Big Spring and his in-laws Jeffie and Ricky Phinney of Coahoma; his sister Shawna Ashlock (Larry) of Granbury, TX; his brother Kurt Henry (Amy) of Peaster, TX; his brother-in-law Jay Phinney (Kim) of Big Spring. He was the proud uncle of Lauren Barksdale (Ben) of Keller, TX; Zac Phinney (Andrea) of Big Spring; Aaron Ashlock (Diana) of Aubrey, TX; Ashley Brown (Hunter) of Big Spring; Heston Henry (Emily) of Cleburne, TX; Holland Henry (fiancée Hannah) of Frisco, TX and Kord and Rawlins Henry of Peaster, TX and great nieces and nephews – Evie, Hudson and Moses Barksdale, Baylor and Lucia Ashlock, Dylan and Atticus Brown. Also, cousins Dane and Philip Shoffner of Trophy Club, TX; Cort Petterson (Marci) of League City, TX, Bruin Petterson (Chelsea) of Odessa, TX and Uncle Paul Petterson (Laura) of Odessa, TX, as well as a host of other cousins and family members.

Pallbearers will be Zac Phinney, Hunter Brown, Heston Henry, Holland Henry, Ben Barksdale, Roy Worthy and Jeb Worthy.

I met Greg 3 times in San Antonio at the Lone Star Bash. He was an amazing man and we are proud to have known him. God Bless

Though I didn't have the prvilege of knowing him, His life must have been a real joy to all who knew him. As loving son, brother, husband and parent I offer my prayers to greatest comforter that we have. God be near you all as you grieve his passing.

I am sorry to learn of Greg's passing. He was a great asset for Rotary and will be missed. The family will be in my prayers.

Gosh this is sad to write. The last person I would think of passing so early.. . Greg was just one of cleanest non compromising people I know. He worked around the clock. I remember him leaving Sunday service early to get to the restaurant. We had lots of fun with our friends the wayne Henry’s and others from church who also played golf and enjoyed fun times in ruidiso. Greg Henry has two sets of parents. Lonnie and Evelyn Coker. And Londa Wayne. Good solid people. It’s such a loss. I hope Londa will be comforted and Lori too Kurt and family. And shawnna Seems the grim reaper is calling all of us soon. Greg was always early if not first to help others. Always prepared always early. I wish I could understand why GOD takes. Some of the most practiced mature in Christianity people early. But he does.

I am so saddened by the news of Greg's passing. I have known him since we were little kids. He was always so positive and easy to talk to. I admired his ability to talk with anyone and make them smile. He was a good man. He had strong Christian convictions and was a good example to mamy of us. I regret not seeing him more these last few years. Greg Henry was one of a kind. He was liked by everyone he met. The world is better because Greg Henry passed through. God rest his soul. I am just so sorry to learn about Greg. We were great friends in high school and had a lot of fun times together. As someone said earlier, Greg is gone much too soon but God had a plan and Greg was needed in heaven. My thoughts and prayers are with the entire family. Londa and family, I was shocked and saddened to hear of Greg’s passing. Brent is really hurting as he remembers the fun they had as kids as well as sharing August 8 birthdays only one year apart. My sympathy is extended to the family as I remember and pray for God’s peace to cover you.

I met Greg when I started working at Howard College in 1984. That spring I went on the student ski trip and Greg gave me my first ski lesson. He showed me how to get my skis on and situated and then immediately knocked me down. As I floundered trying to stand up with my ski's on he sat there and laughed. Then he showed me how to actually stand up. Greg is a great guy and definitely has a passion for life! He will be missed!

Greg was a great guy. I enjoyed discussing baseball, religion, pallets and life in general with him. He went way too early and will be missed. My prayers will be with the family!

I am so deeply saddened and stunned that we have lost Greg. He was unquestionably one of the most consistently cheerful and optimistic people I've ever been blessed to know. My heart goes out to you Lori.

So shocked and sorry to hear of Greg passing. He along with the foundation helped bless our shop during the height of the pandemic . He was so kind and helpful and made a big difference in our lives. I can only imagine the reunion in heaven with his family especially his grandma Evelyn. God bless you all in this difficult time .

I am so very saddened to learn of Greg's passing. I have only good memories of my high school years with Greg, his sister, and the whole Henry family. Truly some of the kindest and best people I knew in Big Spring. Can't imagine the grief the family is feeling. Praying for their comfort and God's presence to be keenly felt during this time of sadness.

one memory keeps coming to me, is how much Greg was so proud of his wife Lori, every Christmas when she decorated their home, and their part of the street, he was tickled how she went all out. I remember him saying, there's nothing she can't do. Blessings of love to you Lori.
