Well, Pete finally retired…..he passed away at home peacefully June 15, 2021 ….. on his own terms. After he had completed his morning reports, of course.
A lifelong Midlander, he was born in Longview, Texas January 1, 1948, to Clark and Annette Wilkinson. He graduated from Midland High School in 1965. Shortly after, to the chagrin of his parents, he eloped to Juarez, Mexico to marry the love of his life, Barbara Moore, to whom he was lovingly married for 44 years.
He graduated from Texas Tech University with a bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering. While he had a long and successful career in oil and gas, he forbade his three children from going into the business. Good call?
His unparalleled work ethic was well-known and quite astonishing. He was humble, hated pretension and did not suffer fools lightly but had a heart of gold and helped many along the way. His bark was always worse than his bite but few had the courage to test that theory. He had a wonderful sense of humor, inappropriate at times, but also a real sense of responsibility to those he loved. He was adored by his family and found his greatest joy in spending time with his grandchildren. He was brilliant, funny, generous, unconventional and one of a kind. He will be missed beyond measure.
He was preceded in death by his parents and beautiful bride Barbara Wilkinson. He is survived by Peter Wilkinson Jr. and wife, Teresa of Lubbock, TX Paul Wilkinson and wife Samantha of Dallas, TX and Katie Watson and husband Benton of Granbury, TX. Eight grandchildren, Katlin, Casey, Drew, Madison, Bailey, Jae, Piper, Ben, and one great grandson Levani. Two sisters Susan Clark Wilkinson Davis of Albuquerque, NM and Julie Tout of Granbury, TX and a multitude of nieces and nephews. Lastly his ever-present and spoiled rotten, bird dog, Rose.
Memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at First United Methodist Church Chapel in Midland.
Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland. Online condolences may be made at www.npwelch.com.
