Wynona Monette Riggs

Wynona Monette Riggs, 80, of Fort Stockton, TX, passed away on April 22, 2021 surrounded by her loving family.

Wynona was born on November 4, 1940 to William (Bill) and Evelyn Brown on the family farm near Orlando, Oklahoma.  In 1959, Wynona moved to Fort Stockton, TX and on August 24^th, started her 35 years of service with Clayton Williams Jr., becoming a founding stockholder of Clajon Gas Company. Wynona always gave credit to Claytie for introducing her to Melvin Gene (Genie) Riggs. On May 30, 1964, Wynona and Genie were married in Mexico. Together, they raised five children.

Wynona was an avid gardener who enjoyed planting flowers and growing vegetables.  She was able to turn the vacant lot next to her home into a beautiful array of flowers in every color imaginable.  Wynona also enjoyed collecting antiques “junk”, a passion that she shared with her daughters.  She was very creative and always had what the family called a “project” in the works.  Most of all though, she treasured spending time with her family.

She was energetic and had a witty personality, but she was also strong willed and would stand her ground when necessary.  Especially in defense of her family.  All of her children and grandchildren knew that they could take their problems to her for her loving counsel.

Wynona is preceded in death by her parents William “Bill” Herbert Brown and Evelyn Francis Brown, her beloved husband Melvin Gene Riggs, and grandson George Frazier Riggs.

Wynona is survived by her brother Max Brown and wife Rosie Salcido Brown of the Woodlands; her five children, Mel Riggs Jr. and wife Marsha of Midland, George Riggs and wife Glenna of Fort Stockton, Wes Riggs of Euless, Connie Riggs Morrow and husband John of Midland, and Regina Riggs Frick and husband Luke of Plano; her grandchildren Suzanne Liscum and husband Jason,  Zane Riggs, Casey Riggs, Trace Morrow, Gage Morrow and wife Alex, Garrett Frick, Jake Frick, and two great grandchildren Vivian Liscum and Genevieve Riggs. Wynona also leaves behind her Aunt Imogene Francis of Oklahoma, and her precious neighbors and dear friends, Donna and Gary Bryant of Fort Stockton.

The family would like to express their gratitude towards Dr Rachelle Young, Rachel Rodriguez with PCMH Home Health and Hospice and Amanda Copeland of Home Hospice of Midland. The family would also like to personally thank Wynona’s caregivers Ericka Hernandez, Otilia Muniz, Elizabeth Adame, Melissa Granado, Amy Jiminez, and Maria Garcia for their love, dedication, and companionship.

Services will be at 11:00 am on Saturday May 8^th at East Hill Cemetery in Fort Stockton, Texas. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to either of the following organizations:
