I knew Harris as a fellow member of the Mount Vernon Community Band, and it's other performing groups. We played together in concert band, the German Band - led and conducted by Harris, and the MV Brass ensemble. He loved and was knowledgeable of all kinds of music. He always made sure to thank me for playing my trumpet in each of the bands, though I am nothing and no one special. My last memory was when the MV Brass assembled outside the Woodbine Nursing Home near his room, to play for Harris as he watched from the open room of his window. He enjoyed hearing the music from us and thanked us. As we ended our "concert" I yelled up to him that we loved him. He smiled and waved. I am thankful that our lives intersected through the universal language of music. He will be missed.

Harris and I shared a lot of music over many years with the Mount Vernon Concert Band, German Band, and Brass Ensemble; he with his horn and me with my trumpet. We played in many venues from Arlington National Cemetery to The Army Navy Country Club and many retirement campuses. He was just a nice, friendly guy with a great talent for music. I'll miss you, Harris... Ron

Uncle Harris inspired me to play the horn and even loaned me his beloved instrument for many years. Decades later I was able to pay that gift forward and loan my own horn to my nephew. Harris' involvement with the Horn Camp is yet another example of how he shared and inspired others. Harris was an attorney by profession but also the best kind of teacher there is--one who selflessly gives of themselves. We miss you so much Uncle Harris!

My sincere sympathies to the family of Harris Wood. I was a horn player in the Mount Vernon Community Band. Harris was always kind and welcoming and an excellent horn player. He was quite dedicated to the band. I was very fortunate to know him and play in his section. He will be missed by many. Peace Harris.
