Glen Carnett passed away to his heavenly father on Sunday, February 14, 2016.Glen was born June 3, 1926 in Harden County, IL, where he attended both grade school and high school in Rosiclare. He joined the United States Navy in October of 1943 and served on submarine duty in the Pacific until 1945. He met his wife, Em in her back yard and decided (as he told a friend), ‘I’m going to marry that girl’, and they were married a year later in 1951 for 65 years. They moved to Midland where his father, George Carnett resided.Glen was employed by Halliburton and soon after transferred to Farmington, NM for 2 years and then back to Midland. He resigned Halliburton to start his well logging company called Tempcal until 1968. He then saw a need for a modern car wash. He transferred to Chicago to meet with the Hanna Corporation, one of the top distributors of the latest equipment. He was hired to represent their company in the southwest area. He did consulting and supervision of installation of their equipment. Later he and a partner built the Village Car Wash and Oil Change, the Town and County Car Wash, operating until 2000. He and his son, Lane owned the GLE Cattle Ranches in London, TX until Lane’s death in 2002. Glen continued to manage the ranch, a pipe and welding operation and hunting, until 2014.Glen was active in organizing the Midland German Shepherd Dog Club. He judged, bred, trained and showed the dogs in Dallas, Fort Worth, Los Angeles, Lubbock and Chicago. He bred the first Shepherd Champion in the state of Arizona. He belonged to the American Kennel Club, the German Shepherd Dog Club of America, The Texas Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association, The Red Brangus Cattle Association and was a member of the Kimble County Chamber of Commerce. Glen loved children and hosted a hunt at the ranch each year for orphans. The family of 3 spent many times together at their cabin in Ruidoso, skiing, hiking and exploring the area. He was a member of Fannin Terrace Baptist Church.He is survived by his wife, Emma (Em) Carnett of Midland; sister, Vicky Carnett of San Angelo; brothers, Donnie Carnett and wife Linda of Midway City, OK, Norman Carnett and wife Robin of Grove, OK, Greg Carnett and wife Debbie of Sherman, TX, and Gary Carnett and wife Anita of Midland; nephew, John Carnett and wife Yolanda of Midland; brother-in-law, Stanley Hickory of Gray Lake, IL; and 40 + nephews, great nephews and great nieces.He was preceded in death by his son, Lane Burke Carnett; brothers, Carl Carnett of Elizabethtown, IL and Randall Carnett of Midland; sisters, Imogene Martin of Rosiclare, IL and Ethaleen Vaughn of Elizabethtown, IL.The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at the funeral home in Midland. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 am, Thursday, February 18, 2016 at Fannin Terrace Baptist Church in Midland.
