Oatherine Elizabeth Reese Woods of Roswell, NM formerly of Big Spring, TX returned to her heavenly home on December 31, 2017 after sharing 95 years with us. Known to her grandchildren and great grandchildren as “Granny”, they describe her as having a good sense of humor, hard working, strong, generous, witty, loving, charming and honest as the day is long! She was “the glue” of the entire family, including her brother, sisters, nieces and nephews.Oatherine was born to the late Walter Mike Reese and Allie Virginia Andrews Reese in Colorado City, Texas on May 25,1922. She attended and graduated from public schools in Colorado City. She married John Harrison Woods on March 20, 1942 in Big Spring, TX and they left for Oakland, California where Harrison worked in the shipyards in the Army during WWII. Nine months later, their first daughter, Brenda Joyce Woods was born on December 26, 1942.They returned to Knott, TX where Oatherine was a wonderful homemaker and cook. She helped Harrison farm cotton on their farm in Knott and Martin County. On October 9, 1950, their second daughter Paula Kay Woods was born. Oatherine was very involved in the community and both of her daughter’s school activities, serving many years as room mother, helping with fundraisers, and supporting athletics. When they moved to Big Spring in 1968, she worked at Hemphill-Wells Department Store while continuing to support Harrison on the farm.After being diagnosed with breast cancer in 1996, Oatherine moved to Roswell, NM to be closer to her daughter, Paula. She fought and beat cancer and lived alone until she was 90 years old at which time she moved in with her daughter and family.Oatherine was a faithful member of Knott Church of Christ, then 14th and Main St Church of Christ in Big Spring. In Roswell, she attended Country Club Church of Christ.Oatherine joins her father, Walter Mike Reese (1897-1978); mother, Allie Virginia Reese (1900-1977); husband John Harrison Woods (December 27, 1920-June 24, 1988), brother, Jordan “Buddy” David Reese (August 20, 1924-January 4, 2006), son-in-law Eugene Coleman (February 5, 1944-June 24, 2012), sister, Aleene “Ene” Reese Holloway (September 23, 1920-January 16, 2017); sister, Kathryn Jane Reese Perry (December 17, 1927-June 5, 2017).Oatherine leaves a legacy and her life will be cherished forever in the lives of her two daughters, Brenda Joyce Woods Coleman of Houston, TX and Paula Kay Woods Baker and husband Bobby Wayne Baker of Roswell, NM; seven grandchildren Heather Coleman Bothe and husband Bo Bothe of Houston, Texas; Anthony Blaine Coleman and wife, Tammy Brooks Coleman of Midland, TX; Craig Miles Coleman of San Marcos, TX; Michelle Baker Robinson and Husband, Ben Robinson of Parker, CO; Charles Christopher “Chris” Crownover and wife, Amy Crownover of Midland, TX; Allen Wayne Baker and Amanda Renee Baker of Syracuse, UT; Amber Shea Baker of Roswell, NM; twenty-two great grandchildren Hadlea Elizabeth Bothe, Harrison Edward Bothe, Hannah Isabella Bothe, Hollyn Rose Bothe, Skye Marie Coleman, Ryan Tyler Brooks, Jaycee Renee Brooks, Troy Austin Brooks, Cash Edward Coleman, Callie Elizabeth Coleman, Rachel Alexis Robinson, Kai Alexander Robinson, Ty Harrison Crownover, Cole Ray Crownover, Chace McAllen Baker, Beau McLain Baker, Logan Theodore Baker, Brody James Baker, Charlotte Rose Baker, Destanie Hope Baker, Robert Damian Baker, and Kamryn Saige Baker.Visitation will be held Thursday, January 4, 2017 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Nalley Pickle Welch Funeral Home in Big Spring, TX.
