Pilar N. Chavez, 83 of Midland, passed away on Sunday, October 15, 2017, surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer. She left this earth with grace and dignity as the woman that she always was and will forever be. The family will be accepting guests from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm on Thursday, October 19, 2017 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Chapel with a Rosary beginning at 7:00 pm that evening. Memorial services will be at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish and Shrine at 1:00 pm, Friday, October 20, 2017.Pilar was born on October 12, 1934 in Mexico to Jose and Antonia (Hernandez) Nava. She married her husband of 62 years, Eusebio Chavez, on January 28, 1955. In 1963 they moved to Midland where they raised their family of 3 children. A humble and kind woman, she never wanted to call attention to herself and did so by living a simple life. She followed Christ in everything that she did and led by example, filling her life with love for her family and friends. We all learned from her advice, guidance, and encouragement and will never forget the life lessons she taught us. She was an excellent cook, seamstress, and loved the beauty of flowers. Her greatest joys were being with her family, cooking for them, and spending her days in her garden. Abuelita or \Welita\ was the appellation favored by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she adored and who equally adored her. Her strength and resilience inspired everyone who knew her. Her life, full of love, extended over 8 decades, and when God called her she accepted his invitation knowing that her work here was done. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend who will never be forgotten and will always live on in our hearts.Honorary pallbearers will be her grandsons, Marcus Chavez, Matthew Chavez, Blaine Chavez, Michael Chavez, Charlie Falcon, Cody Falcon, Clay Falcon, and Albert Valenzuela. She is survived by her husband, Eusebio \Pancho\ Chavez; daughter, Socorro Corrales and husband Rudy; son, Saul Chavez and wife Christina; 2 brothers and 3 sisters; 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.Pilar is preceded in death by her parents, Jose and Antonia Nava; son, Sammy Chavez; and 1 brother and 2 sisters. The family would like to express their gratitude towards her MD Anderson Cancer Center doctors and nurses, Compass Hospice nurses, and family & friends who helped care for her.In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
