Billy Walton “Bill” Stone, 77, of Stanton died Friday, July 7, 2017, in a Midland hospital. Graveside funeral services will be 10:00 AM Monday, July 10, 2017 at the Evergreen Cemetery chapel.The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Sunday, July 9, 2017 at the funeral home.He was born June 2, 1940 in Rusk County, Texas. He married Carolyn Elizabeth Kelly September 8, 1964 in Stanton, Texas.Bill served in the Army National Guard for six years and worked as a Deputy Game Warden in Angelina County, Texas. He came to Martin County in 1967 where he worked for Blocker Oil Company before going to work for Wesley Williams as a cowboy. He farmed and ranched for most of his life and served on the Martin County Farm Bureau board for 34 years. He was president of the Martin County Championship Club and served on the Stanton Farmers Coop Gin board for several years. Bill was active in the community and was an auctioneer in Martin, Glasscock, Howard, Midland, Pecos and Wink counties.He was a member of Belvue Church of Christ.Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Kelly Stone of Stanton; two sons, Walton Stone and Christopher Stone and wife, Courtney all of Stanton; and two grandsons, Jade Stone and Roxton Stone.He was preceded in by his parents, J. W. and Frankie Stone; and a brother, Richard Ray Stone.The family suggests memorials to any organization that benefits children.Arrangements are under the direction of Gilbreath Funeral Home.
