Marilyn Miller Hanson, 86, of Midland, passed away on Sunday, January 25, 2015. Memorial services will be held on Thursday, January 29, 2015 at 4:00 PM at Christ Church Anglican, 5501 North Midkiff Rd., Midland, Texas.Marilyn was born on January 24, 1929 to Milward and Mary Kent Miller in Shreveport, Louisiana. On October 27, 1951, she married Bernold M. “Bruno” Hanson in Midland, TX. Marilyn and Bruno were married for forty-eight years and traveled extensively through his involvement in the American Association of Petroleum Geologists. Together the couple raised a son, Eric, and two daughters, Karen and Gretchen. Marilyn was very witty, kind, and compassionate. Marilyn had a way about her that impacted everyone whom she met. She was passionate about journalism and was a stickler when it came to grammar. She was a great role model to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Marilyn, or “Mutti”, as she was fondly referred to by her grandchildren, lived for her ‘girls’ weekends’ at the ranch with her granddaughters. She enjoyed hunting at their ranch, but she also enjoyed getting dressed up to go to the Petroleum Club with a close group of friends. She had many friends and was very close to all of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Traveling, playing bridge, and spending time with her Garden Club friends were some of her favorite hobbies. She loved going to the theatre, watching the Maverick Players and was involved on the Opera Board. In addition to the Green Thumb Garden Club, she was active in En Amie Review Club, Permian Basin Geological and Geophysical Auxiliary, and a Kappa Alpha Theta Alumnae. Marilyn was the recipient of the Women of Distinction Award for her years of leading Girl Scout Troop 241. Marilyn was a member of the Alter Guild, Daughters of the Cross, and a faithful member of Christ Church Anglican. Prior to joining Christ Church Anglican, she was an active member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church where she was on the Altar Guild, arranged the flowers for the Sunday services, member of the Daughters of the King, and served on the Vestry. Marilyn (Mutti) will be incredibly missed by her entire family and numerous friends. She is survived by her daughter, Karen Hanson-Flowers and husband, Joe of Houston, TX; daughter, Gretchen Bakke and husband James of Midland, TX; daughter-in-law, Janet Hanson of Midland, TX; sister, Mary Jane Andrews of Alexandria, LA; sister, Marjorie Nagle of Houston, TX; grandchildren, Elysse Denton (Keith); Harriet Shields (Jarrett); John Bakke(Dusty); Harris Hanson (Kaci); Mary Lisbeth (ML) Hanson, Rebecca Flowers, Kathryn Hanson, and Kristen (KK) Hanson; great grandchildren, Tilly Bakke, Anna Denton, Bailey Denton, Drake Shields, Bruno Shields and Eric Hanson. She is preceded in death by her husband, Bernold M. “Bruno” Hanson; son, Eric Karl Hanson; parents, Milward and Mary Kent Miller; and brother, Kent Miller. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be donated to a charity of your choice.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory.
