LaVera Alexander, 94, of San Angelo, formerly of Big Spring, died Saturday, September 20, 2014 at The Springs Alzheimer's Special Care Center, in San Angelo. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, September 25, 2014 at the Peace Chapel at Trinity Memorial Park in Big Spring with her son, Jim Alexander, officiating.LaVera was born July 10, 1920 in Hugo, OK to Fred and Annie Mae (Stewart) Hawkins and married Mack Gregory Alexander May 23, 1940 in Roscoe, Texas where she grew up. Mack preceded her in death July 1, 1986.LaVera and her husband moved to Big Spring in the early 1950's and owned the Christian Day School. She taught all levels of school and cherished passing on a Godly heritage. She loved arts and crafts, Christian music, and delighted in making a home for her family.LaVera is survived by her three children; Mack Wayne Alexander and wife Joyce of Houston, Jim Alexander and wife, Susan of San Angelo, Wanda Gail Pridgen and husband, Jonny of Riegelwood, NC; five grandchildren, Vera Whitehurst, Britt Allen Pridgen, Keri Underwood, Phillip Alexander, Ashley White, and Bryan Alexander, ten great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and a sister, Lou Vee Hawkins.In addition to her husband and parents, LaVera was preceded in death by two brothers, Garland Hawkins and Fred Hawkins, Jr.The family suggests memorials be made to The Springs Alzheimer's Special Care Center, 6102 Grand Court Road, San Angelo, Texas, 76901.Arrangements under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
