Evangeline Sturm, 91, of Big Spring, died Sunday, May 4, 2014 in a local nursing home. She passed from this life to her eternal reward surrounded by a loving family and caregivers. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.The family will receive friends from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.She was born April 25, 1923 in Olfen, Texas to Helena and Ferdinand Rohmfeld. She married Louis Sturm December 24, 1944 in Bryan, Texas. He preceded her in death January 25, 2000.After Louis finished military service, they moved to a farm in Norton, Texas, where they started their family of five children. In 1955, the family moved to Luther, Texas, where they raised their children and Evangeline remained until moving to Big Spring in 2004.Evangeline had a strong and faithful belief in the Lord, and was a longtime member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish. She was a hard-working farm wife who helped with all phases of the farm. She never gave up raising a large vegetable garden for the family. Family gatherings became a big event as grandchildren began to arrive. She never tired of feeding the whole family and teaching her grandchildren to play dominoes.She is survived by three daughters, Anna Eubank and husband, Joe of Jewett, Rose Smith and husband, Greg of Lubbock and Carol Phillips and husband, John of Garden City; two sons, Gary Sturm and wife, Lesia of Big Spring and Wayne Sturm and wife, Charlotte of Weatherford; thirteen grandchildren, John Barkley and wife, Cindy, Mark Barkley and wife, Tatiana, Michael Barkley and wife, Mandy, Brad Smith and wife, Shannon, Chris Smith and wife, Ashley, Nathan Smith, Jenny Carr and husband, Clay, Jason Phillips and wife, Laci, Angela O’Brien and husband, Jake, Crystal Sturm, Paul Sturm and wife, Jamie, Eric Sturm and wife, April and Bryan Sturm; 22 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Wilbert Rohmfeld, Raymond Rohmfeld, Dennis Rohmfeld and Ferdinand Rohmfeld; and two sisters, Anna Marie Schwartz and Jeanette Schwartz.She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Lucille Buxkemper, Viola Wilde and Ora Mae Latzel; and one brother, Sylvester Rohmfeld.Evangeline and the family were blessed with wonderful caregivers in the last months of her life. The family wishes to thank her personal caregivers, Jackie, Mona, Debbie, Beverly and Missy as well as the staff at Parkview Nursing and Rehab and Home Hospice.The family suggests memorials to the charity of your choice.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home and Crematory.
