James (Jim) William Kimbrow, 82, of Midland passed away Saturday, February 1, 2014. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at 1:00 PM at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home Chapel with a reception following services. Dr. Dave Slee will be officiating.Jim was born in Amarillo, Texas on February 5, 1931 to Addis Andrew Kimbrow and Alice Juanita Cox. At age 17, he joined and served in the Naval Reserves from 1948 to 1951 before graduating from Amarillo High School in 1949. After a year at Amarillo Junior College, he entered Texas Technological College in Lubbock, Texas graduating with a Petroleum Engineering degree in 1958. He served as president of the student chapter of the “Society of Petroleum Engineers” as well as president of Tau Beta Pi, an honors fraternity. He served in the Air Force Reserves from 1951 to 1958. He was employed with Marathon Oil Company for 20 years working in Pauls Valley, Tulsa, and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Lawranceville, Illinois, Iraan and Midland, Texas. In 1977, he left Marathon Oil and went to work for Houston Natural Gas where he retired in 1986. He married Jane Huckaby on June 10, 1980. Upon retiring, they moved to Kingsland, Texas where they spent the next ten years on Lake LBJ. In 1997, Jim and Jane moved to Granbury, Texas where they resided until 2010 when they returned to Midland to be closer to their family. Jim was a member of the Granbury Seventh-Day Adventist Church where he served as head deacon and treasurer for several years. At the time of his death, Jim was a member of Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Midland.Jim is survived by his wife, Jane; children, Capri Kimbrow Wilson and husband, Lester, of Sherman, Texas, Cindy Kimbrow Brooks and husband, Russell of Midland, Texas; Stacia Huckaby Ramsey and husband, Randy, of Iraan, Texas, Dena Huckaby Kennedy and husband, Gary, of Iraan, Texas, and Darren Huckaby and wife, Diana of New Braunsfels, Texas. He was blessed with 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Hospice House, 903 North Sam Houston in Odessa, Texas 79761.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
