Opal Matthews of Midland passed away on Friday, December 27, 2013 at the age of 93. Services will be held on Friday, January, 3, 2014 at 2:00PM at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Chapel. She will be reunited with her beloved husband, Pete Matthews, in Resthaven Memorial Park at a later date.Opal was born on October 21, 1920 to Oscar and Esther Dunson in Cuthand, Texas. She graduated from high school in Petersburg, Texas where she met her soul mate, Pete. The couple was married on March 6, 1943 in Columbus, Georgia. Opal dedicated her life to being a loving wife and incredible mother of their four sons. After 61 years of marriage, Opal and her family mourned Pete when he passed away in 2004. Opal was a lover of Bingo and the “go-to-auction” at Senior Care, where she resided. She loved shopping and spending time in the company of her loved ones and numerous friends. Opal will always be remembered fondly for her warm and loving heart, along with her beautiful smile that brought joy to everyone who knew her. Her cooking, especially her incredible banana pudding, will be greatly missed by her friends and family.Opal is survived by her sister and best friend, Opha Lutrick. Time and distance could not break the special bond between these two sisters. She is also survived by her sons, James Matthews (Judy) of Flint, Texas, Alan Matthews of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Ray Matthews (Melissa) of Midland, Texas; daughter-in-law, Angie Matthews of Edmond, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Holly Bailey (Bruce) of Duncan, Oklahoma, Michael Matthews (Sarah) of Edmond, Oklahoma, Matt Matthews of Edmond, Oklahoma, Brian Matthews (April) of Kingston, Oklahoma, Jay Matthews (Kaycee) of Edmond, Oklahoma, Jake Matthews of Midland, Texas, Chad Matthews of Midland, Texas, and Bryce Matthews, also of Midland, Texas; great-grandchildren, Luke and Abbey Matthews of Edmond, Oklahoma, Brittany and Kylie Bailey of Duncan, Oklahoma, Mason Matthews of Kingston, Oklahoma, and Keller Matthews of Edmond, Oklahoma.She is predeceased by her husband and a son, Gene L. Matthews.,
