Alvin L. Smith, 91, of Big Spring, died Tuesday, May 7, 2013, in a local hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, May 11, 2013 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel. Interment will follow at Gail Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Friday, May 10, 2013, at the funeral home.Alvin was born April 28, 1922, in O'Donnell, Texas and married Opal Howell February 17, 1951 in Carlsbad, New Mexico. She preceded him in death September 23, 1989.He was a longtime resident of Borden County and retired from the County Maintenance Crew in 1987. He loved supporting different community events like the FFA Stockshows. He was a veteran of World War II serving as a Corporal in the United States Army Air Corps and was a member of the 14th and Main Church of Christ in Big Spring.Survivors include one son, Chipper Smith and wife, Danine of Big Spring; three grandsons, Joshua Smith, Samuel Smith and Conner Martinez all of Big Spring; three brothers, Leovid Smith of Odessa, and J. A. Smith and Everette \Sonny\ Smith both of Big Spring; three sisters, Harlene \Velma\ Knowlton, and Marie \Missie\ Pounds, both of Big Spring, and Lola Mae Foster and husband, Leo of Duncan, Oklahoma; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, Jess and Lola (Howell) Smith; three brothers, L. D. \Bud\ Smith, Lee Smith, and R. A.
